It still amazes me how people think they have the same traction on ice as a bare road, only thing that will save ur ass is common sense, and even that is far and few between, woman are the worst, let my gf try drive on ice n snow, first thing she does is punch the gas.

    Thanks

I wouldn't have the ABS off in those conditions as essentially they are driving on what looks like wet pavement

I also wouldn't be driving that fast if it was slick

ABS off and VSC on would be a good winter option , too bad Toyota doesn't see it that way

I hate that video! My abs was messed up from a bad wheel bearing and I was loving the extra braking power

Further to your question Tard , as to whether or not VSC would have helped that particular driver , I think the only answer would be " maybe "

There is no debate 4wd will get you there easier then 2wd with good tires and some driving skill u will get anywhere you need to go. What we were talking about was your ability to stop in snow with abs or not its tires and driving skill!

It was $200 in snows. But for snow driving you want to run a narrow size as possiable.I'm run 245/75/16. A 265 tire will ride on top of snow easier like a snow shoe a more narrow tire sinks down to road easier. lots of times tire rack wants you to down size for snows for this reason. So instead of paying a lot more for 4wd I spent $200 for snows and used my driving skill. Just my personal choice. If i lived in Alaska would have 4wd I'm in New Jersey it overkill for on road driving for me. Just lighten up bro you take the fun out of this forum

An inch ain't gonna make or break traction issues, I'd rather ride on the snow than cut through to the ice. Had no idea skill effected traction.

Too bad all those exhaust fumes fried your brain and you can no longer properly use the English language. Who cares how long you've used an abs system lol

I do not understand why people don't like the ABS... I've got an '06 4x4 SR5 TRD and it is fine without weight in the snowiest part of Ontario... the Muskoka area....

I run Michelin X ice tires in winter and the ABS and tires work flawlessly..... I've had to stop on glare ice many times..... The ABS worked as it should and helped bring me to a stop much shorter than without ABS...

Must be user's driving habits or I got the only good one made.... I'm gonna keep it..

See what I mean, some have no issues. And he is a Canadian also.

Maybe DoorDing is onto something with Ontario with all their high traction ice and snow. Hmmmm?

He also says ABS has him stopping in less distance than without ABS

You already stated that ABS increases stopping distances on all surfaces

    What a conundrum

Good one DoorDing.... I never knew we had better snow than further south, but if you think about it, you could be right....

Maybe all that industrial pollution and crap spewing from all those diesel trucks and coal electric generating plants and stuff...???? That may affect the "purity" of the snow..... Around here the snow is pure white... and knida "crunchy" when stepped on...

You might be onto something here.....

    Cheers...

Hey, OZ.... I don't think it defies explanation....!!

    My explanation is this....

ABS will "cycle" the brakes on and off way faster than most humans can possibly do, thereby having the brakes in the "braking" mode longer than a mere human can do by pushing the pedal up and down... everytime us mere humans release the brake the truck rolls free (no braking)...(we roll ahead a few feet without braking).... ABS on the other hand applies brakes till there is a lockup then in a "nanio second" reapplies the brakes again....(likely within mere inches)..

I can't brake that well, and I'm sure most people can't either..... Afterall, I have no way of knowing if I have released the brakes enough to allow the wheels to rotate until I release the brakes almost "completely".... the computer knows immediately and reapplies the brakes....

That's MY story and I'm sticking to it.... OOPs, I almost forgot.... ABS allows you to steer if you are in an icy situation and the brajes lock up.....without ABS...you hit the guy....with you may be able to ateer around...

    Cheers
