    Nope. Our trucks have open differentials. Whichever tire/axle shaft has least resistance will spin first. But on the street, under full traction, both are recieving power and moving the vehicle. You have the factory e-locker, correct?

    Your right left tire is wearing faster?? lol wut :confused: How often do you rotate the tires?

    Actually there is a "drive wheel" sorta.

    Fr the stock e locker it Locks the left side to the right..I can remember which one is the "Main" drive wheel..but there is one. The guy is right there is me..s some will chime in that knows..

    ent about 4000 miles since first rotate

    Well, the e-locker actuator moves a fork, which slides a collar, which engages splines to prevent the left side gear (and therefore all spider gears) from rotating. But I don't really see how that fact makes one sid or the other a drive wheel...

    I certainly don't see how our trucks can have a drive wheel when open.... The power from the drivetrain is applied to the pinion gear, which is applied to the ring gear, which is bolted onto and rotates with the carrier, which holds the side gears, which apply power to the shafts and then the wheels. I had to write it out for my sake, but I still don't see how this set-up can create a "drive wheel" or substantially favor one side or the other.

    I iz cunfizzled. I've also never heard of a drive wheel before... maybe that's part of the problem. :D
    Gotcha. I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that since Tacomas are heavier on the left side, it's causing that extra wear... but at any rate, it might be a good idea to cross rotate your tires every 6k miles (or less) instead of just a straight rotation. Rears straight to front and then cross rotate fronts to rear seems to be a good rotation pattern for our trucks.

    AAL's are gonna be a butt, I decided against putting on the toytec AAL on after the axle almost fell fowards off the jack twice. I went straight panic mode. Make sure everything is very well supported.
    I want to put on my wheelers five pack but we're both still scared after that last incident.

    The rear shocks are the easiest thing to put on.

    Well, any open diff will make a one wheel peel unless in a perfect situation. Each tire in the rear will have slightly different variables attached to it(asphalt variables, contact patch size, tire pressure, amount of weight the tire is supporting, tighter bearing on one side of the axle, etc...) which means one tire is bound to have less resistance than the other, and therefore break loose first with the right amount of power.

    How are you trying to replace them? On a lift? Put the truck on flat ground, undo your u bolts, and jack the rear up.

    my 3 AAL was very easy. jacked it up on flat ground with the jack on the frame and did one side at a time to keep it all together

    Under neutral resistance, both wheels should move the same speed. If you jacked your truck up and only one side is moving, my guess is you've either got a sticky brake shoes or a busted side gear. Most likely the former. That said, as I understand it (and I won't swear to this...just what my observations), whatever axle closest to the ring gear may take preferential treatment to the torque from the drive shaft. On Toyota 8.4 and TRD 8.0 and that would be the driver's side.

    But, given your right-left??? ( maybe passenger) side is wearing out, if you think about normal driving style, you make way more right turns on a day to day city driving than you would left turns so the right will normally wear faster, but I wouldn't expect you to notice it unless you are down to the wear bars and never rotated your tires.

    But I don't need help with the AAL's. I am installing the wheelers 5 leaf pack instead.

    when i jacked the truck up and put it in gear both tires spun but i was able to stop the driver side. The other side i could not. is that bad?

    Well presumably you did not have the rear end locked. But What were you trying to stop it with? :D
    If you're using your hands, you're a braver (or insert whatever adjective you feel is most appropriate) man than I. A smarter thing to do would be to have a helper hit the brakes so nothing is moving and then hold the passenger side with a 2x4 or something wedged into the ground and then have your helper slowly lift off the brake pedal.

    Honestly i don't think anything is wrong other than the fact you probably have a heavy right foot when taking off from a right hand turn.

    Im not sure exactly. I just heard the right rear will always spin harder than the left. Maybe its the way the diff is geared :notsure:

    When I had the stock 28's on my truck, the right rear would always light up super fast. If the road was wet and I was taking off from a slight incline, that tire would spin way to easy. But now that don't spin even if I want them to, stupid 3.91 gearing:(
