I thought about that, but I'm not sure that I will come across a deal this good any time soon. The line is worth quite a bit and is strong enought that if I find out the smittybuilt isn't strong enough I can get a better winch and use the Viking in it. I read that you basically want to plan on buying a winch that has a pull strength of 1.5x vehicle weight. That means the truck could be about 5300 lbs. with that winch, and with the stock weight being about 4k (correct me if I'm wrong on that number) I doubt I will go over that mark.

Part of the reason for not wanting a huge winch is that I'm not sure what the bumper can handle, and since I will have it in the bed until I need it, then having to carry it and put it in the receiver, I'm trying to avoid extra weight.

Does this seem like sound reasoning?

Oh and I'm sure that winch in the CL ad was not too bad, but to be asking $550 for an older, used HF winch being marketed as a warn didn't seem like the best option.

Yep, broken and displaced for sure. Any other angles? There's some other questionable things going on with that pic that could be cleared up with the other angles they took if you have those.

Yeah the 8k should be alright and will a bit lighter as a plate winch. That HF on CL was not worth it. I think (not certain) but you can get that winch on sale at HF for around $200 new. So it was no deal.
Holy ouch man. That sucks! Some people just plain suck. :(

    Haha!!

On a different note I tried reprogramming my remotes and the locks cycled like the instructions said they would and you have I use the fob buttons in the programming so the buttons are working. Fob still does not work. Anyone have any ideas.

Looks to be shortened about 1 to 1.5 cm. just let it heal and you'll feel like riding in no time. Just a big bump as a reminder of winter 2012-13.
