 unless you modded your truck, the fog lights only come on when the headlights are on. Sorry, but if you don't realize it's dark out and switch your headlights on, then you shouldn't be driving.

Wow!! It was just meant as a "what i like and don't like thread" I know some guys really like their trucks but you think by their responses that I punched their mother or something.

My fog lamp switch has indicators. They're two bright white lights mounted out at the bumper. Whenever my fog lamps are on, those are on. ;)

You misunderstand. It has nothing to do with us "defending" the Tacoma, or even Toyota.

It's your attitude. You are under the impression that everything you mentioned should have been in your truck, and somehow Toyota screwed up by not looking at market research. And the fact that you are surprised to learn these little things aren't there "after" you paid big money for your truck.

You didn't post a thread looking for solutions to your in-cab lighting issues, etc. You posted like you expected these to be there, and that somehow you were jipped.

If you had done proper research before buying your truck, you'd have known all these little things were not there.

Nobody cares. The truck's been out since 2005, it's foibles and people's various opinions on them have been beaten like a dead horse for 8 years, going on 9.

Others have been here previously and said what you've said. Many times. It's been covered.

Threads about common technical problems or maintenance issues or dealer experiences have some merit. "waaah my truck doesn't have illuminated cupholders" is not worthy of thread creation. You're not that special. Toyota doesn't build trucks just for you and no one in an enthusiast forum is going to give you a shoulder to cry on over lack of an illuminated key ring.

Man up a little. You can find the ignition in the dark. I believe in you.

i agree some of these bug me some what. not that bad tho. i do wish they had floor and cup holders lights, but i’m going to add green ones.(pretty easy fix, if you know a little bit about wiring) I don’t care about no indicator for the fog lights i leave them on 100% of the time. no ring around key hole does not bother me wither. i also don’t have a problem finding the 4x4 switch and putting it in 4x4 in the dark, i think i’m going to get the lighted switch from a member tho for looks and function.

A few mods here and there and counting....
    1. SMD Leds bulbs will make all the difference in interior lighting, cheap i might add.
    2. Theres some info on here by a few members customizing the 4x4 switch to have illumination but I don't really seeing it a big deal.
    3. The physical switch itself is good indication of whether the fog lights are on or not but thats just me.
    4. Look into flyzeye interior lightbar, illuminates the bottom half of the dash, great product as i own one myself.
    5. I never understood the lighted keyhole. Its in the same vicinity with most vehicles and i never once look to locate it.

It's all minor things. This forum is awesome. I've learned a vast amount of info and the search button is your friend! :D

x2!! even in a lighted parking lot i can tell my lights are on or off. kinda hard but i can tell if i look. there is an indicator that tells you if they are on or off. i like how the dash lights are al ways on. they also dim when you turn on the head lights.

edit: i like not having auto on. some times at night i have needed to turn them off. like when i was in my brothers neighborhood cops had someone stopped, i turned my lights of and keep my marker lights on. i could see fin, and i did it for officers safety because i was coming from behind them. i did not want to light them or shine lights on them and the guy may have a gun and shoot at them.

    This is getting funny!!
I guess I'll have to be more careful on what I post? it may not be worthy...yet this is now going on to page 4.
    Thanks tips.
Its never been about want or need. It was about expected. I did do my research before buying my truck or anything else for that matter. I guess I should have searched harder to see that my truck didn't come with interior lighting that all of my previous vehicles had back to 1995.
I don't need power windows or air conditioning either...but it is nice to have it.
Sorry if I touched a nerve.
I'll try to be more careful with what I post. Hopefully I wont make this rookie mistake again.

Regular cab has no slide-out extender, but they are just as thick.

    I agree with you completely.

My '03 Tundra was a very nice truck. Just an SR5, but the 2WD TRD Offroad was nicely optioned, the only thing that wasn't power were the seats. My buddy rode in it and said that if Lexus made a truck, it would be just like that. Super ride, quiet, good sound system.

I expected more from the 2nd Gen Tacoma. I knew the 1st Gen was little more than a facelifted N50 series... even the sheetmetal was transferrable to the N40 frame, only real difference was the front suspension design.

But in the 2nd Gen, I expected better road noise reduction, and more "conveniences" to be standard features... or at least available.
You're complaining about the lack of a couple of indicator/reference lights... the regular cab is not even available with cruise control, intermittent wipers, fog lights, or power windows/locks! 4-cylinder Access Cab isn't available with cruise or fogs. Not sure about power or wipers.

This won't be my last Tacoma (I can't stand the look of the new Tundra), but it will be my last regular cab, and as much as I like the economy, likely my last 4-cylinder.
I'm sold on Toyota quality and durability, but Toyota is (and always has been) a few years behind the competition in performance and comfort.

I think Rich got to it with "and more "conveniences" to be standard features... or at least available."

Didn't realize till I went to use them that it didn't have delay wipers. I bought used so it wasn't like I ordered it and just bought the switch for delay. Cruise isn't a must-have for me, great if I get it oh well if I don't.

I figured the thing was just a bare-bones one the guy before me wanted. Didn't realize it was mostly like that with the reg cab.
