Birmingham made national news yesterday. The guy was unconsious when the cops started beating him. Now... as you'll see in the video, the guy appeared to go directly for a cop just before crashing (about 0:07). It could also be argued (I'm sure by his scumbag lawyer) that he was trying to miss the spike strip that cop just laid down rather than go after the cop, but I'm sure as hell not going to give him a pass... the cop was inches from death.
Aside: The portion of this video you see actually occurred just 2-miles from my in-laws' house. I use that interstate onramp all the time.
The mayor of Birmingham has already fired some of the cops. It's all over the news and talk radio around here... some people say they should be fired, some people say they should get their jobs back. (It doesn't help that our mayer is a crook and very unpopular... which, I think, is fueling some of the complaints that it was a knee-jerk reaction.) So, since I like eating popcorn and watching debate... how does everybody feel about this one?

I think they were clearly just trying to wake the dude up.

I am sorry, but anyone who goes after a cop like that gets what he deserves. He shouldn't have been running in the first place.

A couple hooks to the head is the least this guy should be concerned about. The officers should get their jobs back. Hardly a beating it lasted less then 10 seconds and I think the cops practiced great restraint for not really givin it to him.

I would agree. The dude hit a fellow officer. I think they showed great restraint.

I completely agree that the stupid fuck deserves what he got there in the video but on the other hand, he does NOT deserve to get out of this now because of the video & then there's 5 cops that are not out on the job. I think the stupidity was spread around encompassing all playas. Yeah, I believe in the vid as deterrant to idiots that consider doing stupid shit thinking they'll get away with it.....wait would that be the perp or the cops? Not sure now...dammit!

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
i caught this on fox news and had not idea it was bham until last night when i was reading the news. They forgot to mention he swerved at the cop like that. At first i was ashamed to hear that was in alabama, but now i don't feel so bad. fucker deserved it. hell, if he was unconcious, he didn't even feel it.

While I agree he should have been shot while running and yes that would have been a better deterrent. I dont agree with beating an unconscious person. They should have woke him up, stood him up, and then beat the shit out of him.

It does look bad they beat an unconscious man who just got ejected from a crash. If he has brain damage he will say its from the beating, not the crash and he will score millions. Expect a lawsuit from the scumbag.

Made news yesterday... video from a while back. One of the big problems is the apparent cover-up.

Wow...I'm amazed- Most of the comments I hear about stuff like this is all cop hate....and I'm usually one of the few who tries to defend reasonable actions that are unpopular.

These cops were WICKED outta line. The man was UNCONSCIOUS- They could have shot him when he tried to run the cop down (situation dependent-like no possible civilian injuries/damages)...If he was awake and trying to get up, they could have used restraint techniques.

    -BUT-

He was laying on the ground not moving- There wasn't audio that I heard- but I doubt they gave him any verbal commands while abusing him like that.

Yeah..he took a run at a cop- so you cuff him, call the ambulance, and let the courts put his ass away...Let the cop sue him for any injury costs/damages incurred. Now- He's going to get a break and prolly make a few bucks from the department/ex-cops who beat him.

If you chose to beat the shit out of someone who did something to your friend- You would be at risk of gettin arrested and charged. These police did NOTHING more than that under the guise of a badge.

The fact that the video was TURNED OFF and BURIED is evidence enuf that there were police involved in the situation who knew it was wrong.

They were SO wrong...and they deserve to be handed their walking papers.

Yeah I am going to agree with most of you on here saying that the piece of s--- got what he deserved, but the dude did look unconcious. I mean he was ejected from a vehicle when it rolled. Yeah that was awesome when the cops hit the crap out of him but come on, its on video!!!

I thought i was going to enter this thread and have to be the only ones backing the cops up.

I like to think of it like this.

You know who doesn't get the shit beat out of them???

People who dont try to kill police officers.

Screw that guy. After beating him they probably should have cuffed him and left him face down in the ditch and let him think about his mistakes for awhile.

So where is the line?? Are people who try to kill software programmers or gas station attendants safe from random vigilante justice?? Or is it fair game to beat the ever living fuck out of them too??

Why not just get rid of ALL the police....Everyone can go vigilante one their own and we can pay less in taxes.

You start down a uber slippery slope by excusing their actions because he tried to kill another cop. Police are supposed to uphold the laws...Not bend/break them when it's in their interest.

true...if the guy was conscious and further resisting arrest after the rollover, then beat his ass...but just like the video of the guy getting kicked in the head AFTER he laid on the ground and was not resisting anymore, it was uncalled for.

    active resisting=beatdown

HELL YES- Don't get me wrong...I'm uber pro-cop...when they follow the policy...nothing they did was the right thing to do.

If a cop lays an ass beating on someone with the baton or a taser...and they were resisting or trying to go active....I'm all for it. This just simply wasn't the case.

Okay I just showed this video to a Sheriff and a couple Patrol Cops. They said, "yes" the bastard deserved what he got but he was uncouncious at the time or at least it looked he was. They said with their adrenalines pumping and almost seeing one of their brothers in arms get killed, they acted on aggression. Well at least the beating was only for a few seconds and not like the Rodney King beating that was like 10 minutes!
