I've had my truck for a few months now, it doesn't have a few of the creature comforts previously mentioned in this post that my other trucks/vehicles had, but nothing I can't live without or miss, and what I've gained with the truck outways the loss of those samll bells and whistles. Great thing I've found about this forum is some how, some way, there is a solution to whatever you need here, at least for your Tacoma.
On that note, I wouldn't mind heated mirrors and a defroster for the rear window...

Perhaps, but that wasn't my intention. I was simply trying to state that I was surprised that a top of line, fully loaded mid size truck from Toyota worth $35-40K CDN didn't come with what I would call very basic and handy features that are in almost every other newer built vehicle today.
The fact that there are so many "easy" mods for this proves that others wanted or expected it as well....I just feel that in today's day and age, I shouldn't have to rip my interior apart to mount lights that should have been there in the first place. I'm all for personalizing and making a vehicle your own, but not to spend hours putting in things that Toyota neglected to install or decided I didn't need.
Again, I love this truck, I was just surprised that's all.

Agreed. I've always thought it was kinda' cool, but don't think I've ever actually seen one except as a passenger.
    It's not.
Long road trip, once speed gets above 70 or so, I notice a definite loss in my high frequency hearing.
I haven't put a db meter in the cab, but it's loud.

Loud enough that I couldn't hear the stock stereo at highway speed.

yeah in the 12 or 13 years we have had it i don’t think anyone has ever used both.(we got it new in 2000)

maybe it has to do with TRD vs 4 bangers? i have had mine loaded down with stuff on road trips and been doing 70+ and turned down the radio and did not notice very much road noise. i have never had it drown out the stock radio unless i had the windows down.

My work truck is a company supplied 2005 Chevy 1 ton Express van with side panels that open out on the drivers and passenger sides with the remote fob. There IS a light on my dash for the headlights, damn thing is "on" when the lights are "off" and "off" when the lights are "on". WTF

And if every model had intermittent wipers, that would be one less part Toyota would have to stock.
Cruise control parts are already stocked, so nothing added.

I understand not including things like the lighted ignition that aren't currently available on any Tacoma, but things like the wipers and cruise can be included with the existing wiring harnesses.
Yet they aren't even available with the slim option packages available for the regular cab and/or 4 cylinder.

Perhaps in the case of some stuff (like the visors), it's assembly line time. A friend who worked as a mechanic many years said "the problem with cars is they're designed by people who don't work on them. If it saves half a second on the line, it's great.."

As I mentioned there were things I thought Toyota could have done like the floor lights (didn't care but just noticed it)..that said I mainly bought it so it would last me a long time unlike my Chevy truck.

Seems like Toyota would have saved money lighting up a few switches rather then going with 25 fucking cup holders.

having all the cup holders is nice on ling 6 hour+ road trips! i have used both in driver door and all 3 by the shifter, and the 2 on the back side of console, also both on passenger door cup holders have been used.

It would be one less part they would have to stock because they would not have to stock the non-intermittent part.

And this part is used across a number of platforms including the Corolla reportedly.

They could even do it right now... Since the part is a drop-in replacement, just log the intermittent part as superseding the non-intermittent part.
The intermittent part is $50 more, but the customer won't know that, and I'm sure would appreciate the upgrade.

And it's actually more than one part they could eliminate.
Camelback lists two different non-intermittent and two different intermittent stalks for the 2008 depending on if the truck has VSC or not.

My cupholders (4 of them in the RC bench) are worthless.

The two in the doors are only good for a water bottle. Might be okay for a can, but I'm not leaving an open can of anything sitting in a cupholder where it will just splash.

I have two on the center console next to the shifter.
It's similar to the manual trans panel, but it's not a nice rubber "snuggie"... it's a large open oval space, with a stupid plastic piece with arms that snap out to "secure" smaller cups.
Problem is, they don't secure anything. They don't lock in place.. it's just a ball and spring and they snap closed as easily as they snap open.

I don't dare make even a gentle turn without resting a hand on my commuter cup or it'll go flying.

    Bingo.

My '03 Tundra SR5 TRD O/R was extremely nice.
I personally upgraded it to 90% of what the Limited was...

What it lacked was steering wheel audio, power seats, and the 17" split-spoke wheels (happy Sasquatch?).
Pretty much everything else that came on the limited, I installed myself except for the body-colored rear bumper.
I did install the Limited leather seat covers.
But actual comfort wise, the seat covers and audio controls were the only real difference. Yes, the TRD O/R had a few options that the "base" SR5 didn't including the tow package and alloys.

Toyota had long road trips in mind when they designed it's interior to safely hold 25 'Trucker Bombs'. :D

In the state of Utah alone, drivers drop over 20,000 bombs a year.... gross!

When looking for one for my 10, I could have interchanged with Tacoma, Tundra, Corolla, and Camry. Cutoff was listed as 08 or 09 depending on which one.

Yup yup yup... Bottles only, which is why they are used to store knives and flashlights.

The holders in my Tundra were pretty good, but only because I had the buckets and console. The dash-mounted holders were marginally better than the "diving board" that was in my '94.
That '94 used to piss my boss off. He'd ask for Starbucks. I'd make the run... but on a warm day, the AC would chill the cup, and it was a manual so I couldn't hold them (or even one).

My company '08 4-Runner and '07 Explorer were pretty good.

And the only difference appears to be the direction of "faster" or "slower"
