They look cool but I believe the main reason they were even made was because the earlier FJ's didn't even have map lights or sunglasses compartments (no overhead console whatsoever), thus a larger market for this product than if it was made for a Tacoma.

They look neat, cost an arm and a leg, and probably only fit certain smaller CB radio models.

It would probably be possible to bolt one of those FJ consoles into a Tacoma. If it is long enough to cover the area where our OEM console is and the dome light area simultaneously it probably wouldn't look bad either. You may need to fabricate some adapter plates to match up the mounting locations though.

EDIT: If it weren't so expensive I would find out what it would take to install it.

Every time I leave the sunglasses door open I whack my head on it gettin in the truck. I'd need to wear a helmet with that thing up there...

I am working on building a replacement overhead console that will go from the factory front location back to the dome light. I would be building from aluminum. It will likely be a while before the first prototype hits the waterjet for cutting. No no pics for a while.

I am currently designing to fit the following: replacement map lights(led), replacement dome light(led), a switch pod, scanner and/or cb radio. These are all preliminary ideas based on space and fitment.

Would you guys be interested in something along these lines? I have no idea on pricing yet. The more interest the faster I will work on this project.

What would you ideally want in the overhead console to meet your needs? I would love to hear your input. :D

I would like to make a universal or modular design that would suit several users needs. Then build a small run of them.

Looking forward to hear everyone's input and requirements.....

I'd love to buy one for the right price.
And a temp/compass would be nice...but I'd love to fit my 1001z and some switches for lights (and compressor and lockers eventually :D)
