Rem oil sucks. It's usable, but not a very good gun lube for high performance firearms.

I suggest you read this book if you think a chrome lined barrel is not desirable you can pick it up for 2.47$ http://www.amazon.com/The-Gun-C-J-C...tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1357598716&sr=1-1

I use Froglube exclusively now. I used to use Mobil 1 in my ARs and Hoppe's in handguns but have used dozens of things over the years.

The only thing I dislike about Froglube is that it starts to suck in cold temps. If I operated in a colder climate, I'd go back to Mobil 1 or CLP.

Chrome lining decreases your accuracy. The Melonite treated barrels do not sacrifice accuracy while giving you the same bore life as chrome lining. The ultimate in accuracy is stainless.

i think what brett whas trying to say is you don't need a chrome lined barrel unless you are using it as a battle rifle, ie lots of rounds through it, not always being able to clean it well, ect.

chrome lined isn't that desireable for me because i won't shoot it enough for it to make a difference and i would rather have the slight accuracy gain then the ease of cleaning.

but what it all comes down to is personnel preference and what you need.

brett, i did get the middy gas system, being that it's a 18'' i would've preferred a rifle length but it wasn't a option.

I used this on my Ed brown not to long ago and it happened to be cold and noticed that in that weather the action was extremely difficult to pull back as soon as the gun cooled down... Never used it on anything else... And won't use it again lol... I might give the Wilson universal a try next time I clean my rifle...

Zombie. For a battle rifle. As they state. Its for longevity of life. Not precision. Which I stated and bcm states as well. No civilian here including myself (who shoots thousands of rounds a year) will be shooting out a barrel any time soon. So why not get a more accurate barrel over something the military did to make a battle rifle friendly barrel that isn't as effected by prolonged abuse from shooting and the environment? Besides melonite deals with all that, which is why I personally have switched all my rifles to melonite barrels. Cost effective and accurate.

    Nail on the head.

What he said and I already said.
