Actually, it is only slower when there you are actually doing something in Windows. If no processes are running in the Windows partition (just sitting there while you do something on the OS-X side), then it has very minimal impact on the Mac OS. One thing I would say is that if you are planning on running Windows in a Virtual machine, put as much RAM as you can in your machine.

Good deals on RAM are at www.crucial.com.

Right now, I am booted into my Hackintosh install Running Parallels with SQL Server 05 running doing some development. The laptop is a D630 with a 2.2GHz Core2Duo and 4GB RAM. I'm not seeing any slowdown at all. Runs faster than my Windows XP install.

Stock the way god made her. (FOR NOW)
x2 that works for WMV, and the free version is all you need. Its seamless integration so you dont have anything to worry about screwing up. There is also a player called DIVX for macs that plays other file types. ALso there is a mac call Perian that is the "Swiss Army Knife" for macs as far as file types.

I sound like such a computer geek

We haven't heard again from that one guy who said he would die without a right click. I hope he did not lose his right click AND DIE.

What computer do you have? The older powerbooks, you have to install a plugin for two finger scroll and right click to work.

Post says a Core Duo Intel Macbook in white.
Are you running Leopard or Tiger?

The only complaint I have with Mac is that sometimes the hardware does screwy things. They always end up working, except my firewire 400 port which shat out right after the applecare.

Actually I documented the problem when I had it, maybe I'll be safe...
damn I don't want to make an "appointment" with a "genuis"

make that 2 complaints with mac.
I HATE their customer service cause you HAVE to go to the store for EVERYTHING.

Those new ones have an all new trackpad design.
They got rid of the button and increased the size of the trackpad. which now operates the click and the scroll and the zoom and...
if you cant get it to work than maybe it's just a fault in the new design.

I would take to a mac jackass... I mean "genuis" at their store.

true, but if it's a hardware issue and you have apple care then that's probably your only route short of you fucking it up yourself. They will just say something dumb and then send it to their repair dept.

like I said, I don't like their customer support because they force you to go through the brick and mortar every time

I'm not going to complain about Apple support. Email Steve Jobs direct. That's what I did. I got my 1st Gen iPhone replaced with a re-furb when the screen went out 3 months after the warranty. No questions asked.

All you ever need to do for hardware support is try dealing with the morons first. If that doesn't get you anywhere, email steve.jobs@apple.com or something like that.

They have a team of "Executive Support" personnel that will take care of anything.
