The only thing I wish I could with mine was 2-Lo. I looked into it and people have only done it by stealing the transfer case from a FJ. I just can't see having AWD when 90% of the time 2wd is just fine.

Exactly! I hate driving in 4WD with my truck on the road unless its snowing. I love the feeling being pushed back in the seat, not being pulled along. Plus mileage suffers and parts wear faster with AWD

The front tires wear down faster too like they would on a FWD car.

It can be done with some creative wiring and I believe it has been done. You put a switch that goes to the ADD so when you put the truck in 4lo, the transfer case switches to low range but the ADD does not engage.

I'll look into it again, but I believe last time I looked it wasn't possible with wiring mods.

None yet but soon all black.
I had a jeep grand Cherokee that was full time 4wd. I liked it alot cause when it snowed or when I went wheeling, I didn't have to push anything. It just did it by itself . Was pretty good but couldn't spin tires or do burnouts for shit . I remember when I was young and dumb, I had to put the jeep in drive, go 5 mph, jam it in reverse and then put it in drive just to spin tires. Only did it twice but was so stupid. I'm still young but not dumb now lol. I know my limits.

Figure it out for me please. I'd try it. Only 2-lo I know about is removing the front drive shaft and putting it in 4-lo. I did this to my ranger before trading in needless to say I put 40k miles of wear to the rear tires in a day!

    It's possible with wiring mods:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/165401-2lo-manually-locking-hubs.html

For 1st Gens, there is something you can unplug at the transfer case and you have 2lo. I think JLee figured it out.

You had to bring that up  ;)

I just found the FJ Cruiser write up;4WD Toyota Owner Mag-Sept/Oct '09 has a write up about installing an auto tranny crawl box and there is a seperate sidenote concerning the FJCruiser ADD and 4WD...

You might find more information over at Inchworm Gear;Jim is the writer...nice read and you guys might get a few of your questions answered...

I find your style of writing very interesting, its kind of like listening to a TV show or looking at a script for a play or movie. Not being rude its pretty cool. I can feel your "enthusiasm"

I believe they do this because they haven't fully updated the Tacoma yet as in "3rd gen". Along those lines, they want to separate the Tacoma from other vehicles and to the uneducated consumer, seeing a VVt engine on a Taco and the same on Tundra may sway the consumer to the smaller "cheaper" vehicle and in turn leaving the tundra in the dust...

I guess I'm slow or something but I don't get it.

If you feel you need 2lo why not use 4 lo ? Less damage to trail. When is there a time when 2lo would be an advantage over 4 lo ?

As far as AWD goes, I think its great ! very sure footed. If there was a significant fuel consumption difference than I would feel more strongly about the 2WD ability but there is not when comparing same model with and without. I'm sorta over the whole burn-out thing so I'm not upset that I can't do that.

Your not being rude....I have been around 50+ years and somethings "rattle my cage" ....
that is what makes this place , TW, so dam fun to be around...everyone has a chance to speak, right wrong or in-different..........It all works...

Plus with 2-3 months off , I can take advantage of working from home for my wifes "Biz" while on my PC and then take "other" op's when they come my way...

2lo would be great when moving a heavy trailer (or backing a heavy trailer). If you're maneuvering a heavy trailer on blacktop, you have a LOT of traction and don't want to be making any turns.

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
This. I would love 2 lo for towing. My buddy has 16' trailer we use for tools and backing it up is such a pain in the ass with my 6 speed. Now with the 285s on i refuse to haul it lol. He can use his beat up frontier.
