5.5 will fill it right to the top o the full line of the dipstick.

Walmart is the cheapest place to buy oil, and the Toyota filter is way better than most aftermarket brands like Fram and what not. Plus my dealer offers buy 3 get one free wich I take advantage of.

You might want to consider filling the filter up with new oil, it helps the oil pressure to build up faster when you first start it up. The oil you put in the filter is part of the 5.5 qts total, not in-addition to it.

Iv been doing this since the second oil change i did on my truck in order to stop the ratcheting sound that dry hydraulic tappets make.

No problem, oh and if you get filters from your dealer ask for crush washers, they give them to me for free with each filter, and replace it every oil change.

Crush Washers? With my 4 runner I would just take off the old filter drain the oil, put the new filter on add new oil. This is going to be first oil change on the truck. can you please tell me what those are?

It goes on the drain plug not the oil filter.

So the washer is the same thing as what was referred to as a gasket from the v6 changing thread? I guess I just got confused with the terminology thanks. If your using the tube, did you find that at walmart?

Make sure you have all you need for your Oil Change:

    Oil filter
    Oil filter wrench
New oil plug gasket (available from dealer)
    5.5 quarts of oil
    5/16" ID 5ft long tube
    14mm socket wrench
    Oil pan
    Oil funnel

Yea it's a nickel size washer with like felt on it and goes between the plug and oil pan. Before you put the filter in keep filling it up till it don't take any more oil as it will absorb it, dont fill it all the way to the top (but close) or some might spill when u try to put it in. Then put a little fresh oil on the filter seal, make sure the seal from the old filter isn't stuck up on the block.

Thanks I was just confused on this washer/gasket thing. I am pretty sure I have a filter left from the 4 runner at home, I think that would fit on the Tacoma. Just don't have the washer, hopefully the dealer will have one tomorrow.
