    +1

I was in North Lake last weekend. We had an uneventful drive up until about 500 feet from my girlfriend's cabin at Alpine.

A guy in a 4 door Chevy was going a bit faster than conditions and/or his ability dictated; he was coming downhill approaching a hairpin right turn, occupying most of the left of the road, with his view of the road below (and me) completely obstructed by about an 8' snowbank. I was going up, approaching the turn to go left. Just as my nose became visible and we saw each other, he slammed on the brakes and locked up the tires. I was able to stop completely and he slid across the entire turn and buried the front of his truck into the snowbank that was to my right. He missed my front bumper by about an inch.

My girlfriend said she'd never seen my face so helpless.

The activity you are looking for is called "pre-running."
If you come up this way I can give you a sample. It's called a $10,000 ride. Not because I'm going to charge you, but after you experience it that's how much money you're going to dump into your truck.

Ask me how I know :anonymous:

Barely made it around a couch on 17 once. Sleeper sofa that opened on impact.

It's one of the reasons I rarely ride behind a pickup.

I think with inflation it should now be called the $20k ride, or at least the $15k ride :anonymous:

My closest call (that didn't end bad) was a lady in a BMW X3 who was parallel parked and pulled out into my lane. I had zero time to react. It was just amazing luck. I left a 2' boot "skid" mark on the side of her white suv. I was fine at the time, but when I got to work I was shaking like Michael J Fox.

Good point....depends on if you do your own work or not and if you can find good deals on used parts.

I've had that happen too. I wear steel toed boots. Might leave more than a skid mark

Also had a woman talking on a cell phone hit me at a stop sign. She cut the corner pretty hard and took out the front end of the bike. Literally right out from under me. Another 6" and she would have run me over.

Long travel, I'm looking into it but its alot to read. I don't want to change my body, nor do I think I would use it as much living in the Bay. But it does look fun.

-Besides being cheaper, why do people do MT over LT? I don't really like the look of baja bumpers, fiber glass fenders, or lt in general thats the main reason I don't want to dump cash on it. But I do love your truck, I've been secretly watching it since I've been here.

Anyone know where I can go to just have the top hats off my old struts moved to my new 5100's and ToyTec springs for relatively cheap? I don't know if I want to risk using the Kragen spring compressors with these 650lb springs..also the only offroad shop here has terrible reviews online about being cheats and what not..so I'm not sure what to do at this point. By the way I'm in Sacramento on occasion.

You don't need LT to be able to do what I linked above. You can do it, just not quite as fast.
A solid MT will suit your needs and doesn't require fiberglass. MT is A LOT cheaper (like 1/3 of the cost) than LT and requires less fabrication.
