I have mine on the back of my center console. I don't know why it looks crooked in pictures, it's not. And excuse my clutter.

Most of the above installs are way better than mine but I added mine just to give another alternative. I am 6'1" and this install is completely unobtrusive far as in/egress ( kneeknocking). I had it in there now for about 4 yrs and I like it. Only minus is I need to set the freq/function by uptilting the wheel & peeking thru the gap when not moving. Hard to see display.

Here's some detail on my ashtray install...

The dash facia will require some cutting, trimming.
I have a spare facia... so cutting this one up, wasn't a concern.

Used a 90* coupler at the rear, as well, warmed the ducting
    and pressed that inward slightly.

Used zip ties... 'cause they were handy.

This has been mounted this way for more then a few years
    without any issue.

    Thanks Adam...
I will hope these pics might be helpful to someone.

kind of a hack job with the zip ties...
(I may replace those with some velcro zip ties I purchased after the fact)

    But hey...
the zip ties haven't failed yet and they're are outta view anyways...
so's I'll prolly put that off forever. Lol

    ------------------------

    * note the 2 screws that support the forward side of the CB.
Located just behind the facia (both right n left sides)

^ these were helpful in adding support.

Zip ties seem to be working just fine. I see no reason to change it
