I know someone who "super glued a large nail" on their filter and removed the filter later.

First, they put a dent in the filter to accept the nail side, and sanded off the paint in the dented area for good glue contact and it worked. ... :D

I super glued a nut on a filter top once and that worked too. Now, I buy the TRD filters with the nut welded on top.

I use a water bottle to catch the overflow. I have found the radiator hoses hold the bottle in place, but I still use my hand as well so the bottle doesn't accidentally fall down.

I do my own oil changes.

Like I said above... the 4.0 is a dream.

    I have the 2.7.
Filter is gasket up, on the side of the block, nestled up between the frame and downpipe.

Using a filter wrench, there's only about a 12 degree swing you can get on the handle.

Are you kidding me? I do my own oil changes. Caught a dealer more than once not changing my oil at all and others keeping my Mobil 1 and installing regular oil. I just do not trust them anymore.

Went to buy a 4Runner and the place wanted to charge me for a 2 year oil change and tire rotation plan. I thought all dealers gave that away as a complimentary thing?

It's never complimentary, it's a part of the cost.

You are trying to negotiate the price down.
They want to stick to their guns.

You pay $2k more than your offer and got 8 oil changes that cost the dealer $200 in parts and labor.
And you get the least-skilled employee at the dealership working on your $30k truck.

I don't remember this being in the paperwork on any of my previous vehicles. That's why I questioned it. Either way I turned it down. I wasn't going to add the extra cost the the loan when I can do it myself.

Yes exactly. Tried to sell me some kind of paint protection BS as well. Guy tried to make me feel like I was making a mistake turning it down. I know they aren't going to repaint the damn thing everything I scratch it up offroading! But the extra crap they were trying to sell me was going to add another $100 to the monthly payment.

I did buy the Lojack system.
It scored me one point better on my interest rate, so even after factoring in the Lojack price it saved me about $20/month.
Less money, and I have a Lojack.... not that I'm really sold on them... but this one does have the early warning feature, so even though I don't have an alarm, if the truck is moved without the fob in it, I get text and email to all 3 of my and my wife's cell phones and emails plus robocalls to all 3 cells and the landline.

Ya, but it's minimal. Auto Club's rates are pretty good, so discounts don't make a big difference (other than the good driver discount).

I take mine to a local oil change place, I know the guys, they don't charge much more than if I bought the stuff and did it myself, and I don't have to worry about disposing the used oil.
