Split stock antenna for CB?

I haven't pulled out my radio yet, but I gathered that the antenna uses a 'motorola' type connector.

I have a CB in the compartment between driver and passenger seats in an 09 access cab. I have a roof-mount CB antenna, but don't like to leave it up except for road trips.

Has anyone had any experience with splitting the stock am/fm antenna, using an adapter for CB, and working with that? I know it won't be tuned for CB, but I was hoping it would work for general driving around, while I could still mount the real cb antenna for a road trip or something.

 

Theoretically its possible. However, the stock antenna isn't tuned for CB frequencies, so range and clarity of transmissions will be less than perfect.

 

I tried it a few years ago... performance was crappy for both radio and CB. I also tried splitting a CB antenna for use with radio too, and that sucked just as much... I don't recommend that setup.

 

I would not recomend it. My Uncle was an amature radio operator (ham) for many years, and he told me over and over again not to mess with antennas. They are specifically designed for each application and/or frequency they operate on.

 

Cosign on all- The CB freqs are different from both the AM and FM freqs (Which is why they work without interference...)

You'll get them to work...but you are better off with a CB antenna.

 

Is there an CB antenna that can be mounted on the fender opposite (driver side) the radio antenna that is not obtrusive (meaning long/thick/heavy)?
