Finally finished LEDS - cupholders, console, and bed lights

Yes, it's those days, and if you do that doesnt help me very much, cant see the lights as well during the day. You should come, lots of trucks this time.

That looks great , I wonder if it would be possible to wire up a few LEDs to come on when I hit the unlock button prior to getting in .

Would it be possible to wire to he fuse box or some light itself ?

 

I would think if you could find the wires that go to the dome light it would work since it come on when the truck is unlocked.

Finally got an LED installed in that overhang below the HVAC controls. Here's some teasers, will get some night shots sometime soon:

Here's what I did to mount it in that area below the HVAC. I didn't feel like taking the whole dash apart to get to that piece, so I just drilled through the top piece that blocked that area and then drilled through the bottom in the overhang. I'll try to get a picture of that at a later time, but here is the finished product, I'm very pleased with it.

 

I see most people hooking up a toggle switch are running the power direct from the battery through the firewall. Is there any reason you couldn't splice into an always-hot positive and negative lead inside the dash and thus not have to run thru the firewall?

I haven't done a stereo install since 1999 so please don't bash me if that's a stupid question.

 

I don't see why you couldn't put an add a fuse in your fuse panel. I think most don't do it for fear of overloading the circuit. I spliced into the wires for the lights behind the a/c controls so that the led's come on with the dash lights plus I can control them with the dimmer.

Not a dumb question at all. You can ...... but....the reason i run the wiring all seperate is because IF an led goes out or all of it goes out then i know exactly what to trace and it makes finding the problem easier.........and I wouldn't want it shorting out whatever i spliced into. If that makes sense.... If you know how to wire up stuff then you should be just fine and these LED's aren't much electricity anyhow but i like to be on the safe side and try to keep my migraine headache to a minimum when shit goes south..!!!

I actually took my head unit out and that gave me enough room to drill straight down through that shroud piece that blocks you from the roof of where I put the LED. I used a pretty small bit to drill the first hole and incrementally increased it until I got to 1/4". The first picture shows that first drill hole (it actually provided a good place to wire the LED from) and then a night picture as well I took last night on my phone.

Awesome! But, I feel cheated!!! I just bought a brand new Tacoma, and, I didn't get the net that clips into the center console! Wtf!!

 

Hmmm, must be the limited part. I remember reading a post from a member that complained about not getting one in her truck and the dealer said he'd sell her one... IIRC she threw a hissy-fit & shamed them to the point they gave her one. You could try that or I think they're $6-$10 bucks if you really want one.

Chad!! Can you get me a pic of the wires behind the ac controls you tied into. All my leds are in place but i want to add one where you did, so I would only tie that one in.

I actually tapped the dash light circuit down at the shifter panel on the floor for automatics. I then ran that to the WAGO clamps that rapr mentioned earlier and mounted those under the cupholder console area. Fishing the wire leads up to that area where I mounted it was a bit of a pain (had to tape them to a long straw to pull them through) but it probably would be easier to tap the wires behind the HVAC. Somewhere here is a thread (I think the lighted 4x4 switch DIY thread) that shows which wires you tap into.

 

That's just how I did mine. I drilled straight through but I put in 2 led's.

 

Yeah I tapped into the HVAC I think the green & green/black wires on the smaller plug. I used a test light to figure it out, I can check later to confirm.

 

So I went & checked when I took my break, it's the green & green/white wires. Green is + green/white is -.
