I will hold a position requiring me to gain knowledge of proprietary manufacturing processes.

The way it is worded it sounds like I wouldn't be able to work within the industry regardless of being on the manufacturing side or the subcontractor who is installing it side. This is my only worry. I don't want anyone having the ability to make me stay somewhere. If I can't work within the industry I'm pretty much screwed. It's not like I can fall back on my criminal justice education

 

I did about 8 years ago, but haven't since. Even back then I wasn't required to sign anything.

Non-compete clauses have been the subject of much discussion around here. Eventually, the California Supreme Court ruled them illegal and unenforceable for most employees. There are a couple of cases where they can be enforced but those are pretty specific as I recall.

Me personally, I'm OK with the protection of trade secrets part of the agreement but not the non-compete part. Usually when you read them, the only place you could work is in some other industry. The good news is many states have gone the route of California and either severely restrict the way they work or ruled them unenforceable.

Definitely a good idea to see an attorney to discuss the rules in your state. Make sure and find one skilled in employment law.

Man, you've got to have the coolest job, at least for gearheads. I grew up reading my Dad's Road & Track's and car shows are as close as I've ever been to most of the cars you post on here.
