Reason why I say a trailer for lumber is I usually tend to buy whatever will do what I need in one piece so, that commonly ends up meaning 12 foot, I'm not comfortable hauling that in a truck bed unless it's an 8 foot bed. I don't like it sticking out 6 feet off the back of the truck.

I bought a truck to use as a truck but, not to such a point that I feel it's unsafe.

For my purposes a shortbed would easily suffice as I mostly find myself hauling things that are compact but heavy and there's only so much weight a Taco can handle without having an impact on the trucks lifespan.

A longbed double cab or an access cab may well be a better choice for you, as for me, I cannot offer up anyone's opinion but my own.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I'm really not certain, but I think they are just prerunners only, not sure though.
Yeah you can, pretty sure it is a prerunner only though and only comes with an automatic.

Makes sense. I looked at a DC last night and I don't even think my mountain bike would fit in the bed without turning it or letting the tailgate down. It looks really small.

Drove a 4x4 AC I4 last night and it didn't drive as well as I thought. Really jerky and kinda rough. Clutch kinda sucked on it, but I drove one about a month ago that was MUCH nicer, so I won't condemn them yet.

Also, I hate dealerships. The salesman last night was so pushy and kept trying to get us to "drive out of there with a new truck" last night at 8pm. Pissed me off. Is it really that unheard of to just LOOK at trucks without them trying to run credit checks, get trade-in values, and hold you hostage while they attempt to get every bit of contact info that they can from you? Any words of wisdom when going to a dealership to do some research?

yeah I hate when dealerships do that.
I went back & forth between AC or DC recently.

    Previously drove a 2GEN DCSB for 5 yrs (2006)
went to a tundra DC (6.5 bed)
That puppy could carry anything you possibly want.
I use to lose stuff on the inside

My priorities changed & needed to get to smaller trail head parking lots.
Thought I would go to an AC, was very tempted.

Drove both but couldn't get past opposite swinging doors/small space.
I like having room for gear out inside & really remembered that.
I do lots of outside sports, skiing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, snowshoeing, kayaking & did so fine with my SBDC before.
The SB worked fine picking up stuff, moving stuff, etc. I have a hitch extender & a hitch mounted bike rack.

I came pretty close to getting a AC Sport but remembered that.
    Good luck with your choice.
    Not sure if this helps.....
