Anyone know what color the dash illumination wire is in the stock wiring harness. I am installing an aftermarket HU and the wiriing harness that I have does not have a wire for this. Wanted to splice intothe stock harness so that the stereo dims with the rest of the lights.

If the wiring harness that came with the HU does not have the orange wire coming off it, does this mean that it does not have the capacity to dim?

    Stupid Sony

I have a similar issue. I just left that cable un done.
My deck harness had the orange, but no counterpart in the factory cable bundle.

However, with my deck ( jvc kdavx44 ) it has a auto dimmer based on the clock..
Currently in the Northwest, I set it to "dim" at 9pm "un Dim" at 6:00am
I'd just check if your deck has similar... i'm sure it can dim..

All cars i've ever had have that little internal dimmer control for the gauges. All aftermarket HU's i've had have some dimming mechanism built in.
Personally I rarely ever use that... Therefore, the orange wire became low priority and it just doesn't bug me much. Doesn't bug me at all except that I like to hook up every wire.

If it does bother you though, do a quick search for 2007 tacoma wiring guide or whatever. I found that information easily. It does not bother me enough to unbundle the factory wires..

wonder if it will actually bother you... do you really use that spin-wheel dimmer ? Ever ?

The HU harness does not have the orange wire and all other wires are connected to their color coded counterpart. The adapter harness to go from the HU harness to the stock harness does have an orange wire that I have deadheaded right now.

As for dimming the dash lights, I do like to dim them on long night road trips. Just find it easier and less distracting than having the whole dash blazing at me.

If you pop the dim button out you can check signal there and tap in at that location but you will need wire to run that far. I would sugest adding a fuse in between so you have no future problems between the two.

I thought about doing that but the problem I have is that the Sony wiring harness does not have a wire for the dimmer. All the wires are used in the Sony harness but the adapter harness ( to go from the Sony to the stock harness) has an extra orange wire?

the stereo doesn't have the feature to do it then I would not even bother. I do professional installs and if stereo does not have you don't want to do. If you try you might mess up the stereo and the truck.
