Rice was the best receiver of all time, that's not arguable. I wish I could find the interview where Jerry Rice says that Largent had the best hands of all time. Most people who know football would agree, I'm not meaning to say anyone here doesn't but were all fans .. not coaches or execs.

Rice was crazy gifted with size, 6'2" and 200+ and speed, and a top notch work ethic. Largent was 5'10" 175lb, slow, also with an amazing work ethic.

    Compare these:

Largent: 13 year career, 1006 Avg Yds/Season, 8 Td per season, 64 Rec per season, All Pro 61% of his career.

Rice: 21 year career, 1090 Avg Yds/Season, 9 Td per season, 74 Rec per season, All Pro 61% of his career.

Part of what makes Rice amazing is how long he played. I don't hold that against him, but we all know he should have stayed retired after Oakland. all I'm trying to say is three things.

    1) Think about the team around Rice: Montana, Young, Taylor etc. Compare that to Largent. Especially the QB and running game.

    2) Think about the talent difference and size difference. Rice was the original Larry Fitzgerald, inches taller than any CB. He was Wilt of his time.

    3) Think about the time played.

I'm in no way shape or form saying Largent is a better WR than Jerry Rice. I'm only saying he had better hands.

Yea, but I bet they didn't realize a 5'10" white guy was just as good year for year as their fantasy lover boy. :D they might not admit it but the stats don't lie.

Actually, Jerry Rice was not the fastest receiver but what he could do was run routes to perfection.

I said he had "speed" which when compared to Largent is dead on. Yes, he did run fantastic routes.

Jerry's specialty was what was called the post route and catching passes just before going out of bounds.

My only problem with Rice was when he wanted Steve Largent to agree to un-retire his number. I didn't care for that from any angle--Rice wanting it, the Hawks asking for it or Largent agreeing to it. Number 80 was retired because of what Largent did for Seattle and it shouldn't have even been an option.

Of course, as they've been known to do over the years (Franco Harris anyone?), Seattle picked up Rice at the tail-end of his career when his best days were far in the rearview.
