Correct. However, on any traffic stop I recommend you let the Officer know of it..even if you arent carrying, but have a CCW....granted, they cannot see it (anymore) whether or not said person is a holder, but I dont want any surprises, and they dont either....plus, I have never heard of (myself included) being stopped and receiving a cite for whatever infraction you did if you advise of the permit/weapon.....I THINK the best response is (after your hands are open and somewhat in the air) "before we go any further, I just want to make you aware I have a concealed weapons permit and have my loaded, 9mm on my left hip. How would you like me to proceed?"

We're saying the same thing with different words. Stoner designed a weapons system with the soldier on the battlefield in mind. The average soldier can only carry so much weight and so much size so the basic idea is that within those confines a soldier can carry MORE ammo into battle. I didn't mean that because you have more 'chances' you're automatically a bullet hose. Accuracy by volume it's what I was talking about at all. In a fire fight for your life your shot count does tend to rise though. What I mean was more chances at that perfect shot, regardless of if that's one threat or several. More ammo is always better.

As for 9mm going right through... just about any caliber can and generally will go right through if you're talking humans. Of course this is greatly reduced with proper defense ammo. Sure, if you run ball ammo you're going to punch right through unless you manage to hit something solid like bone. I've seen it first hand with .45acp so it's possible with ANY caliber if you use improper ammo. The key is good defense ammo as I've already mentioned. There's a reason so many gangsters survive shootings and that's because usually thugs go to a hardware store or Walmart and buy the cheapest ammo they have which is usually target/ball ammo. You want a projectile that is going to transfer it's entire energy load into the wound channel. That's ideal. From that stand point it doesn't matter if it's 9mm, .40 or .45 because it's all the same. You use ball ammo and your likelihood of over penetration is good with any handgun caliber. A decade or more ago the common thought was that 9mm sucked and, due to the ammo technology, it did. Things have changed a LOT and smaller handguns have benefited greatly from the advances made in ammo technology. I've done TONS of first hand testing with just about every caliber you can think of with just about any condition you can think of. My information is largely gained first-hand along with extensive discussion with those who know (read: not loud mouths on ar15.com or similar forums than talk more than shoot) online. Among those who know .40 is rarely the caliber of choice. More and more are going to 9mm for all of the reasons I've already listed. For a carry option where size is just as important as performance my personal opinion is that 9mm with QUALITY defense ammo is the best possible tool for that job. If it's a competition I'm running where the poppers are set tight for those running .45 but there are lots of them I may run a .40 for the extra pop on steel but still more capacity than the .45 handgun. Notice there that I'm talking about steel. 'Knock-down power' for steel is often translated into shooting 2-legged varmints and I can tell you that almost nothing carries over from that situation.

The bottom line is that I'm happy to have another law abiding citizen in the ranks of those who choose to take responsibility for their own life. Good for them. I don't want to turn this thread into a caliber debate and instead want to urge others to take what is said here about caliber with a grain of salt.. including what I've said. Hopefully it gives you food for thought and you decide to do your own research. There's lots of info out there but try to find more current stuff as the school of thought with recent advancements in ammo has changed. Better yet, buy a lot of guns, lots of ammo and go do your own tests. Wet phone books, ballistic gel, paper, wood, steel... whatever you choose just do lots of it. The practice that comes from 'testing' is invaluable and, in most cases, better than any of this discussion about caliber. Just go with what works for you and shoot as often as possible. The rest is just details that people debate around a beer.

It's a state law and to the best of my knowledge it's the same state-wide. If someone can show me a county that requires permit holders to inform upon contact then I'm all ears. Your county issues permits but it's still a state permit just like driver's licenses. State laws apply.

    The statute BTW:

Must Inform Officer Immediately on Contact By Law?
    “NO”
    18-12-204.
    (2) (a) A permittee, in compliance with the terms of a permit, may carry a concealed handgun as allowed by state law. The permittee shall carry the permit, together with valid photo identification, at all times during which the permittee is in actual possession of a concealed handgun and shall produce both documents upon demand by a law enforcement officer. Failure to produce a permit upon demand by a law enforcement officer raises a rebuttable presumption that the person does not have a permit. Failure to carry and produce a permit and valid photo identification upon demand as required in this subsection (2) is a class 1 petty offense. A charge of failure to carry and produce a permit and valid photo identification upon demand
pursuant to this subsection (2) shall be dismissed by the court if, at or before the permittee's scheduled court appearance, the permittee exhibits to the court a valid permit and valid photo identification, both of which were issued to the permittee prior to the date on which the permittee was charged with failure to carry and produce a permit and valid photo identification upon demand.

Ost, I think we got out of hand there, you present a whole hell of alot of great valid points.
For the person who asked about guns, I think you should go to a range in denver that lets your rent guns and try out every hand gun in every caliber they will let you try and see what one you like the most, cause it really come down to what YOU like, look at Ost and my self, we each like diff hand guns in diff calibers.
