Is rev matching when you can shift without the clutch?

Nope. U rev before letting you clutch out. Matching the revs that lower gear will produce. Thus a smooth down shift not lurch. Shifting with out the clutch is super easy you just have to know your truck. I can shift all gears down with out the clutch. All gears after I'm moving in 1st up.

When you down shift, once you push the clutch in and start the shift you bump the gas with the right side of your right foot, which is braking at the same time. The goal is to get the rpm's up to the exact spot they should be at a given speed in the next lowest gear. Makes the shift smooth with no bucking, and conserves momentum.

So for example if you're on track and coming up to a corner in 4th, you start braking, clutch in, shift & bump throttle, let clutch out. Now you're in 3rd, haven't lost any momentum, and are set up before corner turn in in the correct gear.

Rev matching was used back when manual gear boxes didn't have syncros so you'd have to double clutch and rev match constantly or else you'd grind

When I first bought my truck I let my dad drive it. He was going though all of the gears without the clutch. Told me I just got to listen to the engine to know when to shift.

This. And if you find yourself driving a big rig you are required to or you will stall/ grind gears all day long.

Second gens are drive by wire it will take some practice but it will be different every time and your throttle has a slight delay.

Every drive a Mack B box? Had one at our shop I wanted to cry but I never changed gears. 2 sticks you have to dbl clutch and rev match all. Some shifts require both levers at once.

You do kind of feel like a bad ass sitting like 30' off the ground though.

I know a lot of the big rigs require you to know how to double clutch. I hear it's easier to teach someone who's never driven stick before. My dad also told me that automatics are becoming more popular in the big rigs now. I should learn to rev match just going from 2nd to 1st in my Tacoma. It's like the gears don't want to sync unless I'm under 5mph

The FJ was funny. Get on the gas in 1st, put the clutch in, wait 5 seconds for the engine to rev down, then put it in second. When you put the clutch in on the FJ, it actually revs up more even though your foot is off the gas. It's great for off road driving when you switch gears quickly at low-ish RPM's, but driving on the road, I would install URD's drive by wire elimination kit so the engine does what I want it to.

Not sure if they have syncro's in 1st. I try not to downshift 2-1. At least I don't think 1st gens do, 2nd gens might:confused:

Idk I've never driven a manual 2nd gen but my truck u can't get into 1st if I'm almost stopped I can force it but that's not good. Get up to 60 and rev match practice. I think on my YouTube I have a few vids of me rowing gears in a Supersnake. Ill post them later tonight. Going to some liquidation sale at the RI convention center then fire and ice
