We were talking about retreads on the Houston thread. Just not worth beating on them.

It is good to have a distraction from my school work. I hate it when I get so locked into my work that I start getting frustrated with it all. I tend to do better when I do a little, surf a little and think about it, do a little more, and surf a little more. That proven method has me helped me get straight As so far so I'm not going to mess with it now. Only 2 semesters to go!

Good to hear the brew has started. As for it having 5 days of delay; I'm doubting that was because of distilled water. I only use distilled water because my tap water is horrible. The wheat we brewed last night already has a 1" krausen on top of it. You said the yeast didn't get enough time to swell - so you used a "slap pack"? Did you take it out of the refrigerator at least 6 hours prior and pop it 3 hours prior to pitch? We had a situation like that happen at my brew club and it took it three days to start fermenting due to the yeast being under pitched. Either way; now that it is fermenting it should be good to go.

I'm also going to pour some of my hefe tonight or tomorrow and see how it is so far. It should have another 5 days in the keg before it is ready.

Getting the slap pack out so the yeast has time to come up to temp is a good move IMO. As for the minerals in the water being good for the yeast; this is the first I have heard that. I have heard that different minerals will give the beer a "base" taste; but the yeast eat the sugars to reproduce.

It was one of 3 things so I just changed em all

    Thermal fuse
    Ignition coils
    Heating element

Got it working now. I think it was the ignition coils because the problem was intermittent
