You can't cut the rail out , it supports the cab back

 

Not really a problem , we're just trying to use the space in two different ways

 

have you fixed your marker/parking light yet? lmao 1st gen problems.

could just have to weld a flat pice of metal in It’s place. that rail sticks out about 1” or so. bet you would weld a 3/8” pice of flat steel in it’s place and be just fine. It’s not the best idea to cut it out, But just say you could do it if you wanted and had the tools to do it and do it right.

 

Haha I know. I actually wish my truck had more in the way of interior storage.

 

I bet you that rail is well fastened , it has all the child seat restraint anchor points on it

 

just turn the hole back seat area into storage. hell would could build something out of wood that will keep it from flying into the front seats. you could have a shit tone of storage inside if you did that. Could have it where it’s like 4 to 6” below the window, and have a tool box style lied on it.


i would say we could build some draws but you back have doors on the back like the 2nd gen AC’s do.

 

looks like it is just welded in place with small welds, I was looking at it pretty close. i know some guys have just the child seat restraints off to fit sub boxes.

 

I wish mine had access cab doors. Probably the one thing about my truck I wish I could change.

 

Did you see my tool box I made in live ?

If I got rid of the cubbies , I would build something similar to fit side to side

 

don’t need doors to build it all into a storage box. just think about all the stuff you could keep back there and out of sight and where if you got in a crash it would not go any where. i bet we could build “tool box” out of MDF pretty easy. Think Dad has all the tools we would ever need. all the joints could be nailed together with an air nailer.(roofing or finishing nailer) could take a router to the edges and have nice rounded edges.

 

yeah i did that looks good, and i was just thinking about how i could build something like it that goes all way across, also you could leave the back side of it open so it does not take up as much storage space.

 

The reason I would / did do a back is so you can screw stuff to it , like the Quickfists I'm gonna mount my Fiskars axe with , or a Maglite etc
