First eight services are free from my dealer, part of the 5 year/200,000 km platinum warranty package I bought along with it. After that I will likely do it myself with full synthetics in everything to deal with our winters...

I do my own because when my truck had 1k miles I took it to the dealership for an oil change. They told me no and that the PM care program didnt cover it until the truck had at least 4k miles. I told them to stick it did the oil change myself and never looked back. Plus it allows me to check on other areas for potential problems while Im under the hood.

    The "One Lucky Sum-Biach" category...;)..lol..

I generally DIY on all our vehicles, but with my new Taco, I wanted to find a local dealership that I can go to if I ever need serious work done. I figured that if a dealership (stealership) can do a good job and be honest about an oil change, "hopefully" that service will carry over into other services they provide.

I took my ride in for it's 5K oil change and tire roation. Service tech came back and notified me that one of my colored valve covers was missing so that they replaced it with a basic black one...oh...well that sucks I told her....little did they know that I removed the rear drivers side valve cap and had it im my pocket so I can see if they actually went through with the tire rotation. Looks like they did unless they outsmarted me and just rotated the valve caps...LOL...

Anyway...I felt good about the experience there and will go back until the free services are done with...then I'll be doing it myself.

Dealer threw on two years of synthetic oil changes.. may as well make use of them!

After that, will do it myself.

Doesn't matter how they feel about it.
Canada may have a similar law, but in the US, it is illegal for them to deny warranty coverage simply because you DIY routine maintenance.

Yet Harley salesmen have every Harley owner persuaded that they have to be serviced at the dealer, with Harley oil and filters.

Good luck, my 2012 is supposed to have 0w-20 Synthetic Oil and the Stealership used 5w-20 Bulk (non-synthetic) on my first and only oil change that will be done by them. Based on what they put on the invoice.

I'll do my own from now on.

    did mine today...2nd change w/ mobil-1 and YZZD3 filter @ 5900 miles.

it took less than an hour. and that included cleanup. (including some engine bay cleanup while under the hood)

I know it's done right. clean. drain bolt & crush washer torqued correctly. new filter.

I have Toyoguard Elite...but the dealership will not see my truck unless there is a warranty issue...or I'm there to trade-in.

I've seen some post about having difficulty removing the filter..do you guys put a thin film of oil on the filter gasket before installing the new filter? You should! Oil on the gasket, hand tight....I never needed a filter wrench to remove the old one.

The dealership. That is until ToyotaCare runs out and they won't do it for free anymore. Then I'll switch to doing it myself ...

the YZDD3 filter comes with a pre lubed gasket. and yes...a good hand tight usually works. I have to use the wrench to remove though.

the oil on the seal is to keep it from sticking and getting all out of whack, tearing etc and causing a leak during install

I got 2 free Care plan oil change.. 100% of the time I do my own.. so I know going on and better care to my truck. Anything that kick on the check light, I have them look into it.. why bother having pay the stealer ship big bucks for 1 hr of doing the oil. it takes me 30 mins
