Snorkel Installation: 2nd Gen SS135MOD & 1st Gen SS170HF

    Yeah they're out there, I think yes it would. I turn mine backwards in the winter too.

    Even in pretty bad rain, though admittedly nothing like I've seen in FL and GA, it's been fine. I've sprayed the head a couple other times with a hose too and not had that problem -- just stating. As far as a drain, kind of ruins the snorkel. There's already drain holes in the stock air box. I sealed them up.

    That would make the snorkel useless... you have to seal everything so you don't get any water when you are through deep water crossings...

    I haven't checked mine, but in raining season I turn it backwards... (always carry a screwdriver)


    My next project is a water collector at the bottom of the pipe or filter box...

    My engine has blown, but it's most likely not snorkel related. I inspected my intake and there was no signs of moisture. Pretty sure I have a bad oil pump. Not 100% sure until I rip it open.

    I reused the stock intake piping and used a 6" length of SS tubing with couplers.... Much easier than trying to get a pipe bent properly and less hassle IMO.

    awe man just go get a piece with mandrel bends in it made for a few bucks. You wouldnt believe the difference in air flow for such a small thing.

    I didnt do it myself, i dont have the snorkel yet. But I do the type of work that deals with airflow and friction loss and its crazy how much better it will make it Im sure of it

    I would if I could!:D The biggest anyone local bends is 2 1/2" :(.

    A lot of shops near me have sold their equipment. My understanding is that there is not a lot of demand for the bigger stuff because of all the EPA reg's concerning exhaust these days. There are also so many kits available for different applications that not many "custom" jobs are done anymore.:notsure:

    I will admit to a little laziness too:eek:, what I got works! I would like to get rid of the 90* restriction, thought I think the most restriction comes at the snorkle's entrance to the fender. That is where the pipe itself has smallest ID, it is also a 180* change in airflow direction.

    Ah, don't mind me, I'm just babbling!:D:rasta:

    Try a shop that does a lot of diesel trucks or semi's. They should be able to bend the bigger stuff no problem.

    Well a basic rule is a round diameter object cuts airflow down typically the same as 10ft of straight. That's a lot of friction loss!
