Another Frame Question

Hey guys I hate to beat a dead horse, and I know everyone is probably sick of seeing posts on these frame issues. My question is, should I keep my Tacoma knowing of these potential problems? My frame is rust free, and I've been pretty nuts about frame maintenance, I even went so far as to do the whole inside of the frame with the Eastwood Internal Frame Treatment and undercoat the entire outside of the frame while it is still rust free. That being said I still get nervous seeing all of the issues people are having with these trucks. I want to know that I can keep my truck for the rest of my life if I want to and not have a rotting out frame. I love my truck and everything about it, and have invested a ton into the thing already making it how I want it. I just want to be confident it will still be here in 10 years if I decide to keep it that long.... I appreciate everyone's input and apologize for beating a somewhat dead horse.

 

i believe the frame rust thing is only certian year tacos.....

 

Sorry I should specify my truck is an '01- I thought a certain percentage of all trucks 96-04 were effected but I could be wrong.

 

and from what i just read 2001 is include..I am sure you will be fine since you did all that treatment while it was still good..shit your truck has been alive for 11 years now and you say it all looks good im sure it stay rust free for 11 more years......plus you live in the southeast so no salted roads.

 

oh and that is if you take care of it. ha i try to spray under my truck once a week at tthe car wash just to wash the road grime even though i dont believe my year, 99, had this recall.

 

That's a good point I appreciate the input. It's funny to think of my truck as being 10+ years old! It still feels like a new vehicle to me!

Can you weld? You can make that baby last a life time with some plate steel and a welder.

 

No, not a welder unfortunately. I would hope I wouldn't have to be...

 

Are you talking about welding plate steel to fix a frame that rusts out? Or to reinforce a clean frame by welding additional steel plates on top of the frame?

 

The Eastwood stuff works. I used it on my 96 after repairing the frame due to some rot. I also used their rust encapsulator and chassis black on my FJ40 over 10 years ago. It rarely goes out in the salt but after 10 years it still looks as good as the day I applied it when I take the time to clean the chassis. Clean the frame out occasionally with water and compressed air and you'll be fine.
