how many miles per tank?

I drive like a shit head. Think I'm anywhere from 210 to like 300

 

Last tank I got 270 before it was on the E line. 18MPG pretty much all highway but usually going 70-75. I was getting 20 religiously before winter blend gas came into play. After driving my dad's 02 a few weeks back I tend to think that the auto's might get better mileage than the 5 speeds. My last 3 first gens were all V6 5speeds with 4.10's but they were all lifted with 33's on them. I got 16-17MPG with them. Now my 96 is an auto all stock with 31's from the factory and 4.10's. At 65 I'm at like 2200 rpm. My dad's 02 with 265's and a 5 speed is at like 2600 at 65. He has a commute too but it's all secondary roads at like 45-50. He gets 18 too.

 

My best would have been close to 400 miles on a tank I'm guessing. Drove from the bay area to Pismo on half a tank which is about 225 miles. Definitely helped to drive 55mph the whole way I calculated it to be around 22mpg. 01 DC on 32's with a lot of armor.

 

Will do once I have them. The truck has been used quite a bit of late to haul some firewood, so I haven't been able to run a tank under normal driving to get a reasonable estimate. I did adjust the Ultraguage after two tanks of winterblend and the average MPG is at 19.8. After putting in the WAI, I see that I'm consistently above that (around 21 in mixed driving). Even with temperatures around freezing, my intake air temp is in the mid 60 degree range while I'm moving. I suspect that if I had straight gas, I'd be closer to 24 MPGs. I am overdue to replace the plugs (I bought the truck about 10K ago, but no idea when they were changed last) so it could be that I'm losing MPGs that way also. I will get to that sometime later in the week, fill back up, and run a tank under normal driving...I hope. Regarding the grill block, I see that to get to normal operating temp (180 F), I need to drive about a mile further when temps are around freezing. It also detracts from the MPGs as we all know. That said, I would be satisfied with 375 miles on a winterblend tank and 425 on straight gas.

Jordan - keep in mind that there are enumerable configuration/setups of our Tacomas, so results will vary. The key for you is to see what numbers your particular configuration will yield. Your best/worst will be different, but you can always challenge yourself to best your best. By the looks of things, you might be running your configuration for offroad blasts. Of course when you are playing, your MPGs will be reflective of that. So, when you can run a tank with careful and deliberate driving, you will know what your vehicle is capable of, even if you don't drive it that way all of the time (especially when off roading, towing, or hauling).

I'm getting lower than normal MPGs, but I've been hauling firewood of late about 12 miles over rather hilly terrain. MPGs are lower, but I'm not all that bothered by it. Actually pretty impressed with the 4 cylinder auto tranny's ability to get the payload home without any noticable strain and the ride is rather smoothe. So all things considered, the 18 MPGs are fine with me.

 

I have definately toyed around with different driving styles and what works best. my problem is a rarely run a full tank with out doing something such as wheeling to ruin my mpgs. that and i always start off a tank with best intentions of getting good millage and then find my self blasting from one stop light to the next

 

I remember those days. When you are younger, tanks of fuel get burnt up quicker. As you get older (and after a few speeding tickets), you slow things down and the MPGs come back. Maybe if the opportunity presents itself, you can run a tank with your configuration and then post your numbers. It may be helpful to others who wish to modify their truck to know what they might expect. Don't forget to post the details about your Tacoma's configuration (vehicle details, mods you are running, etc.) along with your MPG data (and perhaps note what your mileage is at each quarter tank).

I would get made fun of because kids would pass me on the way to school and tell me i drove like a grandpa but....
I always told them i was in no rush to get to school anyway
besides most of them didnt have to pay for their gas.... or insurance

 

After my Lift and new tires, im getting 330-350 Miles per tank all highway or like 280 MPT in the city. I think my problem is i love the sound of my exhaust from stop to 60, and i want others to hear it too.

 

How should I know? I have never driven a tank.

 

About 15 when it's 85 octane and close to 19 when using 87. Here in the mountains/high plains 87 is mid grade.

Luckily even Conoco mid grade is about 2.90 a gallon!

 

At some point you'll figure out that nobody else gives a shit.

Last time I filled I only got about 195 out of a tank with the fuel light on. But considering my truck idles about 20 minutes a day, winter gas, and 33x12.0s, and the extra drag on my light bar, I suppose its not terrible. I usually total my mileage anthem add 6% to it to compensate for my odometer being slow with my tires. I have a v6 and usually have to wheel a little every now and then, no armor, and 5" total lift. I usually do about 65 with a moderately heavy foot when I drive. Anyone think it would warm up faster if I plugged my air box (deck plate) off for the winter?

 

Hahahaha!!!! My wife calls me grandpa most of the time because I drive...normal-like. As a kid, I paid for my gas and insurance and after a couple of tickets and an accident, insurance expense sucked up lots of $$$$. Tough lesson to learn but I learned it pretty well.

 

I think that your air box/deck plate mod should actually facilitate better MPGs. A few of us here track the air intake temperature and from what I can tell, scavanging the warmer engine compartment air rather than the cold air syphoned through the fender should improve FE. I'm doing the study now, but too soon to provide quantitative data. As you've probably read, keeping your foot out of it the best you can should help stretch a tank of gas. Good luck!
