I also have a 75 wx st.

 

I have a Firestick 4ft w/ tuneable tip antenna mounted to the front driver side corner of the bed. I mounted it using a bracket I got online and attached it to the bed rail. It is grounded using a 6" strip of 16g wire which goes from the mount and attaches to metal underneath the bedside. I run a 10ft RG58 cable (rg59 will also work) from radio shack. It runs under the truck and comes through a gromet under the driver seat. Then is routed under and up inside the center console just behind the shifter. It has no slack and no bunched up excess cable. The actual unit is stored inside the center console. Tuning was pretty simple.

Only mistake I made was I tuned it with the truck off, then turned it on and the readings were way off again. I have RCAs and 4g power cable to my amps which run through the center console and are passing noise into the CB. When I key the mic I get a pop in my speakers. I need to reroute something, but if you don't have audio cables by your cab cable you should be fine. After re-tuneing it with the truck and stereo on, I easily got it back to 1.0 on channel 1 and 1.2 on channel 40. Just have to be sure to tune it in the exact way it will be used like with the engine on.

 

I think my culprit is my shitty antennae.

Where are you pulling power from? I am getting power from an add-a-fuse and I haven't tried tuning since I installed months ago but i couldn't get it until 2.5 and that wasn't acceptable to me.

 

A crappy antennae with definitely give you lots if problems and a high swr. My firestick was only $24 out the door. I ordered it from 4wheelparts. I can get you the model number if you want. They have 3, 4, and 5 ft options

 

How are you pulling power?

 

I have (+) going to a heavy gauge ignition wire near the inside fuse box. (-) is grounded right under the center console where the oem inverter is grounded. It shares a common (+) wire with my PA and they both have the same ground point.

nothing yet... one guy on here just u bolted his to the oem rack and it seemed to be just fine so im probly going to do that. dont really know how else to do it
