Thanks, that's what I figured. I drive on some dirt roads by my cabin, but that's not that often, and not at any type of speed, so I think I'll be ok. Gonna leave em off for a while, and if I don't like it, I'm gonna trim them.

I had to take my front ones off now that I have 265 75r16 BFG AT's. I tried to grind them down a bit but it still doesn't give me enough room. I guess a trip to Canadian Tire is in order.

For those of you without front mud flaps, what parts of your trucks seem to get the most splash-up (ie, could get damaged the most)?

I did a search when I took mine off, to see if anyone had issues. I did find a thread where a guy posted how the front bottom of his rear fender took the brunt of some damage, I forget what he said he drove on to cause it. Give me a min, I'll find the thread.

    Edit: Found it. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...ing-about-removing-mud-flaps.html#post4971442

Thanks, I don't want that to happen so I better get some thin flaps on asap.

Ya, like DoorDing said, if your gonna be on any type of gravel, than its a good idea. Although I love the look without them.

Never really thought much about the flaps other than they look too long, esp the fronts, and are kinda ugly. But then one day a couple weeks ago I didn't get lined up perfectly to back into my driveway. No problem, I thought, this is a truck and the front tire would easily go up the curb. Well, it did, but the stupid drivers side flap hit the curb and snapped right off. What a joke. So I got a set of Weathertech front flaps to replace them. Really nice looking and short enough to not be so vulnerable to breakage.

Im thinking about hacking mine off. I wonder what is the shortest length before they are ineffective?

I have only replaced the driver side broken flap so far so I was able to measure the difference. The stock fronts measure 4 1/2" from the road surface. The Weathertechs are 7 1/2". So they are 3" shorter but they look like they extend plenty low enough to be effective.

That would depend on tire size & amount of lift.
After I cut 4" off the front & 1" off the back while stock it reduced the times they dragged. Now with 3" lift & 33" tires mine dont help a lot.

Wish there was a better market for a set of take off factory mud flaps.

I'm thinking about getting a set of Weathertech digital fit instead of shortening my stockies.

Just what I need, another set of factory take off something or other sitting on the shelf in my shop. lol

True, those damn clips where garbage. I broke all but one taking them off. Of course the last one, I said F it, and didn't even try to save it. it wasn't even that cold out.

Finally got around to doing the passenger side and thought I'd post up a pic. These are 3" shorter than the stockers.

Also note the pile o' crap that came out from behind the wheel well liner. The other side was similar.

Anyone replacing mud flaps should have some extra push rivets handy. The stock ones are hard to get out w/o breaking. And a couple of mine broke off when the stock mud flap broke. I couldn't find a good match at the local auto parts places but these guys have what you need. They say for Camry, Tundra and 4Runner but they are also an exact fit for our Tacomas... come in boxes of 15.

Nice, thanks. All but one of mine broke, still deciding if I want to trim mine and put them back on.

The front ones are ridiculously close to the ground on a stock truck. I see some guys have ripped them off off road. Well, I tore the front driver side one off in a Starbucks parking lot! haha. Just trying to back over a curb to get out of a tight space.

Well, I trimmed a full 8 inches of my front flaps. I've been eyeballin other trucks and also by judging by the mud splattered on my truck with no front mud flaps, I think i have just long enough to protect against rocks banging on my quarter panels too bad. Which is all I care about, not so much the extra dirt. So I shall see how the work. Also, I have more than enough space, that I shouldn't have to worry about hitting, or dragging them on anything.
