No. I didnt have time to drop my headliner so i couldnt scratch the paint off. I drilled the hole about 1/16th too big and it fit a little loose so i put a bead of silicon around it as well just to be safe.



Just tested it and me and Hiatt transmitted about 4.9 miles away through LOTS of hills, homes, and commercial buildings and still came in clear. Simplex no repeater. It got really bad after that though.

Its a small 18" Diamond (NR72BNMO) antenna running 1/4 wave on 2m and 1/2 wave on 70cm so its pretty basic. I wanted the shorter length but surprisingly its still works pretty dam good considering. Using a Larson NMO cable with it.

Radio is a Yeasu FT-7900R. Still need to make some adjustments to my mounting job. I did it kinda half fast but I'll clean it up tomorrow.

Monkeyproof, that Kenwood handheld in the picture is a Protalk TK-3200L 2 channel. I use channel 1 for work which is 464.5500 with a PL tone of 67.0hrz. I set that on my ham and I get nothing. Any idea what's I could be doing wrong. I tried every possible other frequency it might have been changed to and also tried every possible PL tone. Had the ham set to Encode/Decode. Got nothing. I'm bummed cuz that was the whole point of this radio.

And now I'm getting a bunch of ladies speaking Spanish on thay channel lol. I pick it up on the Ham with PL turned off and get nothing on the handheld.

Edit: I just did an auto tone search for both DCS and CCTSC and the Ham didn't pickup anything while keying my handheld. Only thing I can think of is that the handheld is using a different freq than what the manual says, but I have no way of knowing what freq I'm on if its not the default.

Don't know what's up..I think first step is to confirm the HT frequency with a frequency counter which I don't have. Or you can try using a ordinary scanner as a frequency counter. Do you have the step frequencies properly adjusted..I think you should be using 5khz..

Thanks. I just uses a sheet of ABS plastic. Cut and molded it to match the contour of the OEM panel, then carpeted it with sub box carpet to fill in any minor gaps and cover the rough edges. Just wanted it to look a little cleaner and this seemed like the easiest way to do it. Simple form of a "beauty panel" I suppose. Works for now
