They have plenty of Forestry related jobs up there. Since I am going into forestry, I'd love to get paid to live there and get paid to work.

 

Don't forget that the state is very controlling about alcohol.

What kind of jobs exactly are in forestry? Sounds like a pretty cool job to have

 

There are jobs working fir land clearing companies, environmental science related jobs, monitoring and taking care of groups of ecosystems, managing and using a forest in sustainable way. Tree harvesting and such. I want to work with the Forest Service. I've got four years to figure out exactly what I want to do. And hopefully after that I can get a Graduate Assistant gig somewhere so I can get paid to get a higher degree and get a better title to my name.

They don't seem that bad.

 

Most of the native Eskimo tribes have out lawed it in their towns/villages or whatever they are called. Also the sun is up for 6 months straight and then it's dark for the other 6 months. Extremely high suicide rate and the money paid to residents each month is minimal from what I hear. I want to say I heard $900 for a family of 4 but I could be way off. I think it would be cool to live there for a few months in summer but that's it.

 

I have heard about the suicide rate. When I went to Alaska, the whole sun thing being up messed with me. It could be like 1 in the morning and everything would seem several hours off and I wouldn't be tired.

 

I knew a guy in college from Alaska. I asked him about the sun (and lack there of) times during the year and he said it does get kind of depressing. I can imagine the suicide rate has something to do with that.
