    Just curious....

Was your last car/truck not fuel injected? I ask this because I was cautioned by my mechanic when I got my truck to turn the key to the on position, hesitate for a second and turn the key to start....and do NOT touch the gas pedal. He really emphasized not to touch the gas. Something about the computer sending a signal to the fuel pump and if the computer senses too much gas it shuts off the fuel pump. So, I am just asking.....

Fair enough just what I have found, I have no statistical proof, just that it seems to work for me, i'm sure that cycling all electronics doesn't help then either if that's the case....

My 2012 has started doing this recently. I've owned it since August and didn't really notice it doing it until recently. I wouldn't say it's cold weather though because the one time it was as bad as in your video it was probably 70 degrees outside. It's done it on a smaller scale a handful of other times as well.

My 94 hilux did that....so does my 09 maybe once on my 09 so far. I may be crazy but it usually happens when I have a big temp change in the weather say in th AM it's dry...cool then when I leave work it's muggy & raining.....maybe some sensor. :). Peace!

This issue isn't the VVTI engine issue is it?.... the VVTI stands for Variable Valve Timed Ignition..... and what happens is this....

The engine rotates till cylinder #1 is at Top Dead Centre.... then,....(and Only then) will your plugs fire to start the engine....

I've got comments from Ford owners that say..."mine starts quicker".... I just say "yeah" , but mine will still be starting in 12 years.... "doubt that thing will"..hehehe

On mine it takes a few seconds sometimes....I suspect that would be because the engine stopped just barely PAST the TDC position and had to go through the motions to get back up there again...

Just wondering.... ?? Not really sure..

Yes it was (88 4Runner.) I know you shouldn't have to give it gas while cranking...that's why i took it in to get fixed.

My '06 has only failed to light on the first crank cycle a handful of times. It only happens when I fail to pause with the key in the "on" position before rotating it to the start position. I use the pause method to allow the fuel pump to pressurize the line/injectors.

OP, take it to the dealer. That shouldn't be your problem for a truck that young.

    Not much.
I would seriously lose my damn mind if this happened to me. I'm pulling my hair out right now because when I turn the air recirculation button on and leave it on, it randomly turns off when driving down the highway.

I've also had this happen to my 2012. Generally I ave up on the first crank and the second time it fires right up. Like some other people I now try and remember to turn the key wait a few seconds while the fuel system initializes before starting. I haven't had it happen for several months now.

It happens so intermittently/infrequently I feel it would be pointless. It will go 2-3 months with no problem then out of the blue this happens. It always starts....eventually. Where would a dealer even start, not even on this forum with hundreds of experienced folks can figure this problem out.

I used to have this happen with my truck very occasionally. For some reason the longer I own it the less it happens. I think it only happened once in the past year or so.

When it was happening more often I had the dealer look at it and they couldn't find anything wrong.

Also, the leaving the key in the ignition for a few seconds before cranking does not solve the problem. I started doing that after reading so many people say it on here, but it still did it.
