Anyone Proud to Not Own a Gun?

So... some people are under the firm belief that it is EVERY individual's right to own a gun, correct?

Under that logic, the global community should just say eff it, and let the Iranians and North Korea have their way. Go ahead, they're bat shit crazy, and they can probably destroy us all given the proper tools, but it's their right to bear arms too as a nation.

I just think there are certain individuals who don't deserve the right to own guns.

 

I'm perfectly fine with people being content with owning a gun. They don't have to be convinced otherwise. That being said, I do own a gun. Some for hunting, and some because they are fun to shoot.

I don't mind having background checks at all if they are actually helpful at rooting people out who shouldn't have guns. I even wouldn't mind if everyone who purchases a gun had to take something similiar to a hunter safety class. I have taken one and I feel it would be beneficial information for every gun owner.

But I don't believe banning guns is the solution.

Oh, come on. Vehicles are far more difficult to operate, and roads far more difficult to use, than a firearm. Likewise, the former two require close interaction (cooperation, similar actions, etc) with large numbers, while self-defense is, by it's very nature, an individual act. It really doesn't require a safety class to understand a firearm is a deadly weapon which should not be used except in extreme situations in defense of your own or another's life.

 

Both comments from untrained and unfamiliar individuals. OP you have made it clear that your a non gun owner and you have your right to think that there could be an accident. You can also get in an "accident" in your car so this argument holds no weight.
Monster I am very familiar with whats refered to as a sympathetic trigger pull (which is what you are reffering too). That's why you keep your finger off the trigger there high speed.

Im confused we are talking about guns... right not cars? I have a car so yes there is a chance I will have an accident in it. By that logic it means people with guns have a chance of having an accident with a gun. 1+1 =2

You can't sit there and say "i'll never have an accident" well shit I may as well add "I'll never get a ticket" or "I'll never have a vehicle accident" or "i'll never get robbed" Sure there may be a slim chance but like I said before.. Shit happens.. if it didnt the world would be a perfect place now wouldnt it

 

Bury your head a little deeper in the sand... Having someone go through a safety course is not a bad idea. Safe handling of a firearm is not intiutive just as driving isn't. Safe and proper handling of a firearm is learned behavior. Take an untrained, unfamiliar person, give them a gun and attack them. You'd have them beat before they even got the safety turned off. Having a gun is pointless and dangerous if you don't know how to use it. I don't see why any responsible gun owner would be opposed to new shooters being required to take a safety course.

I'm sorry, I'm trying to juggle three things at once. I'm getting hung up on "responsible gun ownership" which the majority of ppl are (I would hope).

With that logic then yes, I guess there could be gun accidents but when it comes down to it, if you don't pull the trigger, the gun no boom.

Pulling the trigger is not the only way to make the gun fire. Accidents are called accidents for a reason. They are unforeseen and can have a number of causes. If everyone was 100% safe 100% of the time, then there wouldn't be any accidents but there's no way you can make an argument against that. Shit does happen, mistakes are made, things break, etc.
