That's right. The reason they worded it as "arms" and not "muskets" or "pistols" is because they foresaw technological advances in the future. They knew that weapons would continue to evolve.

I don't think I am safer with and AR-15 in my house. Any shotgun will provide an effective deterrent. You only need thirty rounds on the offensive. break into my house and I will only need a couple rounds to remedy that situation. and Yes a .22 can do very serious damage. lastly, I never ever saw anyone stroll down any street carrying an AK-47 or AR-15 unless they were robbing a bank or something. Giving people certain guns takes away MY ability to feel safe.

It was your imlication when you stated you were heavily outgunned by our military. The entire argument about what the military has and what private citizens have is irrelevant.

It goes naive, some gray, paranoid. Just because he's more prepared or aware doesn't mean he's paranoid. I'm glad he isn't naive.

pretty sure Fast and Furious was something other than a plot to arm the cartels. What your theory? I heard it was to track them and find the routes the guns were taking and how. Not the best idea but I don't make those calls.

I think of it differenly. pointing out specific firearms you can't own is saying " you have the right to bear arms but with certain infringements. You can't say it doesn't infringe on constitutional rights, it does so in great detail. IMO of course.

I interpret that as you saying this "I'm a betting man, and I hedge my bets on myself being a more accurate shot with whatever weapon I own or have in my hand than my assailant and whatever weapon he may have and whatever the situation.

You also hedge your bets that the new bans take all the guns you don't like off the streets.

I like all guns, been a fan my entire life. I am just not getting all freaked out by all this hype. Last time this happened (mid 90's), nothing changed really. No ban will take all the banned guns off the streets, only help reduce the number of new guns on the streets. People are freaking out because of groups like the NRA shouting FIRE in the movie theater. Really, does anyone think guns are going to be taken away? Not a chance.

    Just felt like adding my 2 cents;

The term "militia" in the 2nd amendment has been interpreted by the Supreme Court as not only our governments military, but any militia group.

That includes terrorist organizations, and any radical group within our country who may decide one day to form a militia and go after some other group. This threat is real and could happen at any time, it's not just paranoia.

[FONT=&quot]Also, quote from a good news article I read today: "The ten-year Clinton ban was allowed to lapse in 2004 after Justice Department and private studies concluded it had no impact whatsoever on murder and violent crime rates and had become a symbol of wrong-headed governmental attempts to restrict firearms ownership in this country."

Nope, only rights taken away from responsible law abiding citizens willing to obtain them legally. Not from any criminals who will take any measure necessary to obtain them.

Any gun in the right hands is capable of killing dozens in seconds. Ask the VT people. Hell a couple of planes were used to kill 2k people in a little thing called 911.
By you logic we should take away all things that kill massive amounts of people. I think forks and spoons kill more people than AR15's.
I have 2 AR15's and 2 AK's and I have never once came close to killing anyone or have ever thought of killing anyone. But don't you worry, they are locked in a big safe, so they wont jump out walk to your town and shoot you.

Thats just your opinion. not one thing you stated could be considered a fact. Having people with your line of thinking makes me feel unsafe. Ban people like you!

See how that works? Just because YOU dont want something doesnt mean no one else should have it.

That's kind of the point I'm trying to make. And some people like, and shoot AR-15's very well and feel safe with them as well being a responsible gun owner. Rather than better control the hands these guns fall into you take them away completely and out of the hands of those who like them for protection and own them responsibly. A ban does nothing for safety against wackos and ciminals.

    ^ Exactly

Here are some statistics from the FBI on U.S. Homicide in recent years:

[FONT=&quot]Only 2% of U.S. homicides in recent years involved any kind of long rifle including hunting and assault rifles. 4% by bare hands / feet. 13% by knifes. 52% by hand guns.
