OK, it was a quicker read than I thought. Lets not take into account the fact that most of the stats are from 1997....Here is the entire post, minus the stuff about the constitution, since we are talking specific stats here....

Well interesting how it states that "
The largest category of firearms fatality is suicide, not homicide."

Well, Well....That IS interesting.... Of course if someone wanted to commit suicide, owning a gun or not does not appear to stop them, since people commit suicide all the time WITHOUT guns.

Then it goes on to say that in self defense home homicides we have 1.3 accidental deaths. Hmmm. Seems like they are lacking in other stats here like how many people were in the home at the time, and how many times of the number of home invasions where a self defense homeowner with a gun prevented any deaths at all, even the criminal's death. Perhaps 1.3 accidental deaths per is a number where an average household has a husband, wife, and 3 kids. Now I don't know about you, but I have BEEN around criminal elements before, and while it is tragic, 1.3 deaths in a home of 5 is better than the criminal coming in and killing all 5. Does this sound a bit cold? Hell yes it does. Death and murder of ANY form is cold and terrible.

Face the facts here. It is a bad, bad world we are in. People will kill each other. It is a sad fact of history. Personally I would like to be able to defend myself if I chose. I don't want my government telling me I CAN'T. I'll return later as I have to leave now to visit my mom in the hospital. See you all again next time I am on!!!

Probably just take it like a man and improvise. If someone wants to shoot me, whatever. Guess I deserved it or something.

Most scenarios would probably play out like Gran Torino anyway. Confrontation starts, I reach for the gun on my hip, and I get lit up like a christmas tree before I can even aim the gun. Slim chance you come across a pussy that waves a gun at you but caves as soon as you pull one on him.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.

Liked all of what you said, but this is very true, unfortunately we can't all just say, "here are our guns, let us all live in harmony now."

I would gladly turn over any guns not used for sport if a magical monkey riding a golden pegasus with flames for wings could guarantee me that no other guns in the world will ever be used for anything other than sport. Until then, I would like to protect myself from the crazies that I know my government can not, the world has too many bad people in it.

I've been around guns most of my life, but never owned one.

That will change very soon as my wife and I just took a class to prepare us for the application for a CCW permit.

We'll submit the apps this weekend to our police chief... then see how long it takes to get a permit. Massachusetts is not very generous in giving out handgun permits.

MA isn't bad at all, it just really depends on the town you live in. The state is slow to respond, plan on it being a few months.

It is interesting to see how they sort these statistics. In firearm deaths the also count officer related fatalities. And in Suicide they include death by cop. I have even seen place count US enlisted deaths in there results.

I'm not saying that these stats are scued.. but...

I wish there was a place to get straight results. Most sources can even agree how may people die each year.

Here is last year by State.

I will agree they are biased. They are biased towards preserving life as we know it.

The content of there site is intended for health professionals. Seems they may be the ones who know whats actually going on since they treat all of us.

AJPM ranks in the top 8 percent of journals in the Public, Environmental and Occupational Health category of Thomson Reuters' Journal Citation Report and the top 17 percent of General and Internal Medicine journals.

I'm all for guns and gun ownership. My first gun was given to me at age 10 and I continue to shoot to this day for fun (22 years later). I strongly believe that the supporters of gun rights only hurt themselves and the cause when inaccurate data is provided. Can't we take the high road and not slant data towards our goal? I believe it would be much better if only the other side was providing biased data. I see far to many people wrapped up in the medias tweaking of the facts on both sides. Propaganda does work on the uneducated, but in the end the truth always comes out so why deny the facts at all?

My sig stands true. Can't really fudge the number of body bags that get sent to the morgue in the US. Other countries like Mexico....yea they fudge the numbers.
