First of all, thank you to all those who have served.

For the last 5 months, I have dedicated myself to become an officer in the United States Marine Corps. I live in Sacramento, but go to school up in Washington state. I have been trying to become an officer by going through the Platoon Leaders Class. I passed all of the physical requirements and took the ASTB to become a pilot.

As my package was going through the medical board, they noticed that I had sleepwalked before. I sleepwalked once when I was 14 and turns out that this is a disqualifying attribute. I was going to go to Quantico, Virginia in 7 days but now my friends that I have met while going through the process will be going without me.

I guess I just wanted to say thank you to all those who have served and all those who will serve in all branches. You are in my prayers and good luck to all those going to training this summer.

Was stationed there back in 1985 when it was Navy (same year they made Top Gun). Is the sign "Fighter Town USA" still on hanger 1? 10 years Navy, 14 Air National Guard.

Hey, that's rough. Don't give up yet - in my time in the Marine Corps, I learned that there is a waiver for damn near anything. You might just need to adjust your approach by trying a different program, or possibly go the enlisted route. There are numerous programs that move enlisted Marines into the officer ranks.

Why did you tell them you had sleepwalked before? No way they could have known if you hadn't told them.

When I first filled out one of the many surveys, I had no clue one sleepwalking event when I was 14 would be an issue at all. I have also tried a different recruiter but still no luck :/

Marines is where the action is...that is if youre an 0311, cause if youre not infantry youre only support. All of the other personnel in the Marine Corps that are not Infantry and only P.O.Gs are just support to that unit.
