I haven't read the whole thread but from the title alone I'm thinking about hiring OP to take care of my student loans through Wells Fargo. :D

It's a pretty good read, a lot of ups and downs. Maybe not a NY best seller but it would probably be available at Barnes and nobles.

First have to get the humor out of the way....

I remember the old saying "Gas, Grass, or Ass, nobody rides for free"... I think now should be changed to "Gas, Grass, or Jasmine working-on-your-truck-ass, nobody rides for free"

As for the OP situation, it reminds me of what happened to me. TWICE!

Me, my gf, and my two daughters were renting in Downtown Orlando and the city wanted to expand the high school. They used the Imminent Domain law to force the owners to sell their home for "fair market value". Fortunately there were a LOT of renters, and one was smart enough to hire a lawyer. That lawyer got involved on all the renter's behalf and what happened was the city agreed to allow renters to live in the homes for up to 6 months, rent free, while they saved up to move. The only stipulation was that they had to obtain renters insurance, and keep all utilities paid. This actually helped a lot of people, because some of the renters were on fixed incomes and would have never been able to afford enough cash for deposits and such on a short notice.

The other thing that happened, just a few short years later which is similar to the OP was: We moved to Deltona and were renting a house. We were about a year in and were at the end of our lease. We told the owner that we were interested in buying. They agreed and we obtained a buyers agent to help us get the house. A few weeks later a "notice to vacate in 14 days" was posted on our door when my daughters returned home from school. It was posted by a local bank. It seems the original owner had not been paying his mortgage for the last 6 months! So instead of being able to buy the house we wanted, we had to pack up and move in 14 days. (It seems that the owner came by on several occasions to remove the other "vacate" orders before we saw them) We were unable to find anything to rent that kept our girls in the same schools that was in our price range in the 14 days. We were lucky that our buyer's agent was able to find some obscure law that protected renters and she helped us get the correct papers to file, forcing the bank to hold off on our eviction. Was any of this our fault? Of course not, but we stayed in that home for an additional 30 days before we found a place. (We actually were able to buy our first home) and I never paid a dime in rent to the bank. Was it their fault? No, but neither was it mine, and since filing the extended paperwork cost me the equivalent of a months rent, I felt quite justified.

Not everyone who does this is a deadbeat and out to screw the world.
