yeah, i've cut the the plastic before. i was just a litle pressed for time since i had to have it working and still have to do some other stuff before our meet in a week.

my concern was that if i were to cut out the back and recess the radio more, becuase of the indentations for the cig lighter and 12v, the holes in the bracket will not be touching any of the dash. I can make a new bracket or modify the one it came with, but not in time for the meet.

little $5 project to keep the dash a little more clutter free. I normally just have my ipod in the glove box, and control it via the head unit, but for when other people ride with me and want to plug a different mp3 player or lap top into the stereo, I have an aux cord routed to the little cubby by the 4wd switch.

i use my phone for gps and to run an obd2/dual axis inclinometer program. both suck down battery, so it's always plugged in. figured why not hit a 12v outlet where the aux cord is hidden.

the black hole below is where the aux cord goes through.

That trailer is pretty freaking sweet...I bought four more lights because of you haha. Put two more behind my rear tires and two more in front of my front tires.

They're all mounted and only the rear ones are wired up since it took forever. I have slight OCD and I'm paranoid so I'm using all ancor marine grade wires, butt connectors with adhesive shrink tubing and this stuff I found called Star Brite. It's a liquid electrical tape that actually works pretty well. My shit is waterproof! Tomorrow morning I'm going to finish wiring the front lights but I have to figure out how I want to run the wires and where I want to splice into.
Oh, do you think there's a need to seal up the small holes where the wires run into the LED housing? I'm guessing they have it sealed on the inside but like I said...paranoid and OCD.

nasty stuff in the catch can. drained some pretty standard looking milky oil out of the bottom plug, but then i got this real thick stiff dripping out very slowly. took the bottom cap off and found some nasty nasty stuff. real thick, congealed looking stuff. just glad it's in the can, and not going into the motor.

0__0. How's that happen? Milky stuff is from driving shorter trips right?

accumulated in the oil fill cap, yes, shorter trips can be the cause of that.

in this case, it's just moisture in the that enters the pcv system. the catch can works by going from a low volume (hose) to a high volume (can). the higher volume temporarily drops the pressure enough to cause condensation of oil vapors that may be in the air. it's just a positive sideaffect that it will also condense some of the moisture in that same air. this gives you the water/oil mixture that looks all milky.

so in theorey, if i lived somewhere that had 0% humidity 24/7, the oil in the catch can would look like the regular oil you put into and drain from your truck, since there would be no moisture for the can to condense and capture.

Wow. Thanks for taking the time to explain that man haha I actually understood it. I'm thinking I need to throw a can on my truck. All the cool kids are doing it nowadays.

Had a great meet this past weekend. had about 25 trucks. lots of trail riding to show some of the newer fellows around, but still had plenty of time to play in the more technical stuff and test out the new trailer suspension.

lol, he'll have to drill a hole in it and make a keychain or something.

was there any telling if it was the ring or pinion that was the initial failure? i want to say i've seen blown ring gears before with fully intact pinions, but i'm not sure.

luckily, no mud this time. i think john found a puddle, but that was it. would have been nice to have a little drizzle though, because it was dusty as hell on the sand trails. clay and rocky stuff was good though.
