Is there a link to or a sticky explaining the differences between TRD's, Sports, SR5's, Prerunners and all other that kind of stuff?

No but most of it is on the Toyota website. I build a Tacoma on that site at least once a week!

Basically it is each different package

SR5 is in credit to the 5 original engineers or sometihng and is just a trim package.

Prerunner is the 2WD that is made to replicate the look of a 4WD, however the word has a more interesting origin.

TRD is the "Racing development" which in reality is offroad packages.

TRD off road comes with 16" alloy rims and some sort of locker

The TRD sport comes with 17" wheels, a hood scoop and some form of locker

People will fill in the gaps i left!

TRD Off-Road has an electronic locking rear diff.

The TRD Sport has a Limited Slip Diff.

All TRD have the A/C outlet in the bed and compass/temp on overhead console.

I think SR5 came about on the 1979 toyota trucks. It was a complete different truck than the 78's.
If memory sreves. SR5 literaly ment Soft Ride 5 ( five being the number of leaf springs in the rear stack) Up one from the 78.
I dont post this as FACT...... but I'd bet a few beers on it.

    COORS LIGHT PLEASE.....bottle

SR5 actually means "sport rally 5 speed", soft ride 5, that's a new one I've never heard.

I always hears SR5 stood for the 5 original engineers. I was doing some research to prove you wrong. Instead I found this

Glad to know that there is some merrit to what I thought I knew. I know I had a buddy with a 78 ( and now I am really showing my age) The 1979 was a great leap forward.
If I ever get to Northern Va.... you are buying the beer:D

I have to retract my earlier post at least 90% of it. I am now under the impression that SR5 embodies much more than suspension.

Damn I have to buy my own beer....

p.s. I hope that this thread continues, not as any type of arguement but to refine a beloved badge....

SR5 began as "Sport Rally 5 speed". Since then it has denoted a trim level...
