This was not an attack, it was to compare things that are used for protection. My I suggest an article. This is not a bs link, or some stats, just an opinion.
It called "On sheep, sheepdogs, and wolves"

I still remember the whippins I got after repeating some things that I was told in school.

Actually, it's nigh impossible to argue against this point. Anyone in a position of power is going to want to make their lives easier, for whatever purpose they wish that for, and the simplest way to that end is for everyone else to agree with them. These people using transcontinental communication devices that the human brain typically does not analyze with critical thinking skills is just a natural and inevitable extension.

Already read it and it has been posted on here before. If you really think that there are only 3 types of people in the world you know nothing about psychology. So are any of those things you listed made to kill people? I dont understand why people just list random objects that arent guns and try to make a connection.

Ok, sure, control 'people' if you want. Just the same way as the double yellow lines and speed limits control people. ;)

We have enough laws, we just lack the ability and the willingness to enforce them.

He definitely did not use the correct word. This is where we need to debate brainwashing vs marketing. Did the government brainwash people into thinking smoking is bad? Or did they market the hell out of it. I would not consider myself narrow minded thank you very much.

Mmmkay and tinfoil hat all you want (or excuse it as the "wrong" word), the now AG used the word and makes his intent clear and that is the suttle change of perception regarding guns, in this case, and as your (and several others) post have proved it has worked...so well you don't even know it's happened to you.

I go visit my mom in the hospital and come back on the next morning and WOW have the claws come out on both sides! Not surprising. It is obvious that neither side will sway the other. The one thing that I have the biggest problem with is when one side of ANY argument, be it guns, abortion, military, gays...whatever subject, instead of just voicing their opinions, try to take something away from the other group simply because they disagree with them.

This is America. It is what it is, and over the last 237 years it has progressed. Which direction it has progressed is an interesting discussion in itself. We have to be doing SOMETHING right considering that the US Government has stood for longer than any other government has ever stood for any single continuous time. (Look in the history books)

Now while I agree that crime is high in our country, and violent crime is always going up and down, it is a fact and a product of our society. When you have a part of your society that has been around for over 230 years, and you try to do something to make a massive change to it, you are just looking for problems.

Look at prohibition. It didn't last long at all. why? Because the people didn't want the change. Look at your history books. Women used to have no rights. Hell LESS than 100 years ago a woman couldn't even own personal property. Look how long it took our country to bring about that change! Guns are no different.

In a society where guns have been a mainstay of our lives, trying to come in and make a change is going to meet with some resistance. I may be wrong in this, and I really don't think I am, but has anyone ever wondered why the united states has NEVER in it's history since the revolutionary war been invaded? The closest was when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, and that wasn't an invasion, it was an attack and retreat. This country has never been invaded in over 230 years.....Why is that?

I wish I could find the quotes, but I have read in several books that many of our major war opponents have stated that they won't invade because they know that damn near every home has a gun in it! Why do you think it was so easy for Germany to invade France? Because the French at that time were very passive, and their citizens were not armed.

All of that history aside, what bothers me is when a small group of people try to pressure the government to tell the rest of the country what they can and can't do! Gays can't marry in California...Why? WTF would happen to California if gays could get married? Want to know what? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, because it does not change what is going on. Gays still live together in California, so that won't change. So what would happen if they successfully banned "assault weapons" (I use that term loosely) and/or large capacity magazines? Nothing! Because the guns and magazines ARE out there. All that will change is that the criminals will be the only ones with those weapons and magazines.

I firmly believe in the common phrase: "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will own guns"

And just in case ANYONE has any doubt about where I stand on this subject, I believe nobody needs to have a dang AK-47 or other weapon of that type, nor do they need to have a 100 round magazine. But guess what? I live in America where they have that right. I am not going to pony up to the group of people that don't like them and try to get them outlawed. What IS next? Something that I DO care about? With all of us truck owners out there what really disappoints me is that this thread has more attention than a thread that talks about our off-road locations being closed down. Sad sad days.

I don't even know what to say to you except to agree with another person's post that you DO hide behind a gun. you just let someone else hold it for you (i.e. our military and police) I would love to see what your opinion would be if a criminal broke into your house and killed one of your family members because you thought you were a baddass that didn't need to have a gun. You say you are a man? Well be one and admit that your statement was a jab at people that you know nothing about.

No, not objects used to kill, they are used to save and protect. They are tools, same as guns. I fully respect anyone's right to own, or not own guns. They also have a right to not use a smoke detector, or fire extinguisher. The only difference really is perception. A gun in the hands of a police officer is a tool, the fire extinguisher in the hands of a firefighter is a tool. We can choose to use those tools in our home to protect the ones we love.

We just need to know how to use each tool properly. Both can do more harm if used incorrectly.

Guns if used "correctly" can be used to harm.

Yes, that is the idea. They harm the bad guy and protect the good guy.

Anyway, I give up for today.

I do appreciate the mostly on topic discussion here.

I gotta say, I disagree. I think everyone that lives in a milti-home environment (i.e. duplex or apartment) should have a fire alarm, even if they don't want it. While owning a firearm is a different situation, not having a fire alarm DIRECTLY puts others at risk in nearby homes or apartments. Again tho, that is a matter of my personal opinion that they should have one. Putting others directly at risk is just fact, especially in multi-home locations.

Even if you believe criminals obey regulations and won't obtain "mega" magazines anway... not having "mega" magazines won't impede mass shooters intent on killing, very much.... ;)

I agree. That's a building code issue and yes, should be that way. Owning a gun or not has nothing to do with building codes. Person making that comparison must be a worshipper of the current occupants of a certain house in the DOC making that comparison, lol:D
