I somehow knew this was going to be the answer but ignoring the Java update is potentially dangerous to the enterprise.

Sounds like the company you contract to needs a better patch management strategy

    P.S and security policy.

I see you are LEO associated?

A degree in computer science or database development would open doors in places like the FBI. There are plenty of other opportunities (outside of LE) as well.

Why not take an intro to programming class and see if you like it? Oh, you will need (or want) a math background.

Check out the school districts. I fill that job. I run around and help teachers with what they need, set up new laptops, servers ect.

They might not have hat exact position tho. Im technically an A/V tech but i dont do that job. We already have a dedicated AV guy.

Anyone see this story (Man outsources his own job):
    http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-man-outsourced-job-to-china-20130117,0,7296290.story

One commentator said he could have gotten away with it if he had set up a proxy server at his house to mask that the work was being done in China. They discovered it when someone noticed that a person from China was logging into the company servers.

He made a couple hundred thousand dollars a year and then paid the Chinese worker $50K/year.

I have a question for you IT guys. My hard drive quit in my laptop, kaput, done, out of commission. I'm still under warranty so HP is sending me a new one. I'm installing it and have to send them back my old one. How to I make sure any personal information is cleared off my old hard drive? I know, I'm probably being paranoid and I don't really have anything overly sensitive on there anyways, but it's not really anyone else's business what I had on my hard drive to begin with.

Sine it wont spin up, the most you can do is drill a hole through it.

at work we use a Degausser. But for home you could smash it with a hammer or drill a hole in it making sure you hit the platters. then they couldn't be placed in a new drive and spun

If you have access to a CT scanner you could toss it through that too.... But I'm guessing the drill is going to be your best option.

If you don't want to physically damage the drive (incase that voids the warranty), you could use some neodymium magnets. All of your refrigerator magnets combined won't do the trick.

Where would I get one of those?

Here's the thing guys, it's a collateral part so I have to send it back otherwise I get charged. I'd imagine if I drill it, I'll get charged. I might have to call them and have them define what condition it needs to be sent back in :D
