    i actually like the Kobalt toolbox. But, if you're gonna keep expensive tools or valuables i wouldn't get it. I guess you get what you pay for. It's a nice toolbox for $200 and does it's job. I think Weathergaurd (i don't know for sure) but they are about $700 and are almost impossible to break open.

    Thanks for your opinion. I probably won't keep valuables in my tool box. Probably stuff like jumper cables, a light, some survival gear, an axe maybe. And for stuff I would need if I'm going on a trip like a bag or something. I don't need a big expensive one.

    I've got one of the small kobalt ones in black. I picked up a pack of little "anchor" thingies to hold it on by the rsils inside the bed. I have about 250 lbs of crap in mine, and no problems yet. I was gonna get the UWS, but it is twice the price

    Weatherguard is very tough, damn near bulletproof, comes with theft deterring mounting straight to the rails, the aluminum version is 90ish lbs by itself and I've had 250lbs on it while washing my rain gutters with no bending/flexing/anything.

    Best locks around, no rattles, the struts are fully boxed for protection inside, comes with powdercoated steel tray, very tough powdercoat finish, watertight, and made by knaaack.

    Just costs about 700 bones.....not for the faint of heart.

    But if u got some serious poundage to store, it wont flex like most other boxes (yes I've had a few and seen it happen)...it also wont dent even when a concrete firepit slams into it on a hard stop (tie down came undone). Even when they don't flex, I've had others that sounded like a tin can and u can hear them "pop" when a lot of weight is set inside or taken out like the metal bowed or something.......never ever happend with the weatherguard in the 5+yrs of ownership

    Its all about ur needs, security, and $$$..

    Those are sweet too. But I'm looking for something cheap for storage. Pretty much why I'm not putting anything expensive in the tool box.

    Gotcha....they are overkill if its simple things, and may be a huge waste of money for some.

    Honestly I always knew my weathergaurd was multiple times safer than my truck. U can't steal them boxes or break em open without taking the damn truck apart.

    Yeah. When all the items I put in my box will be less than the amount of the kobalt, I don't think I would need a $700 tool box. If I had the money, heck yeah. lol

    Now that I've decided on the kobalt probably. This or a chest style tool box. I need to know how much room is between the lid and the cab when the tool box is all the way open. Need to make sure I can fit a light on the top of the tool box since it will be covering my bed rails there. Any pics?

    You'll be surprised at how fast you'll fill it up. Don't cut yourself short. I have a UWS low profile deep well box. I have to have it this big due to my fire gear. I mounted a piece of dimond plate inside as a divider. I'm just about out of room. It's kept in place by 2 J hooks that are hooked into the rail system. The only thing wrong with it, is I wish it was black. I'm looking for someone that can powder coat it for me.

    Sweet. And I know about size. I probably wouldn't put a lot of stuff in my tool box. Plus I would still want a good amount of bed room

    If you are not in a rush and keep your eyes out you can find a UWS on CL for a deal. I found mine for $150 on CL just by searching Tacoma. You do lose a good bit of space in the bed though this pic will give u an idea with the UWS.

    Have you considered this option? The extender removes in seconds if you don't want it in there all of the time.

    Well the extender would be nice, but for a dirt bike in a short bed, it wouldn't work. Now for bed space without a dirt bike, it wouldn't be bad.

    So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
    Tripps ? What bed length is that truck. Looks short ? not much in front of the wheels.
