Just curious but why an 01-04? Are they better than a newer one?

 

As far as first gens go I just like the front ends better, as far as 2nd gen vs. 1st gen thats a debate haha.

They are a bit more..refine..interior is he biggest difference. And the hood, front fenders, and front grill with head lights and blinkers.

Mechanically they are pretty much the same.

Oh..and 1st gen FTMFW!!!!

 

It would seem that 2nd gens seem to be a bit fragile when abused. 1st gens seem to be able to take the same abuse and keep on going. IMO

I will keep my eyes open for this area.

 

Iv e heard/read that the first gens have weaker frames so ive always equated that to overall toughness that is somewhat lacking on the 1st gens . I am in no way trying to start a fight. but more trying to learn about the tacos. I know very little about either generation and probably see more gen 2 mall crawlers than anything around Boise. But see a lot more trail capable 1st gens. Soo the 1st gen statement about being weeker kind of throws me off a tad. I you know what I mean.

Lol actually we have a fully boxed frame till the rear. 2nd gens are all c channel.

E only weak part of our frames is when some like me with a ton if rear weight slams Dow I could bend the frame since the rear par isn't boxed. But it's an easy fix.

They are both toyotas. So both are pretty reliable. The big thing 1st gen people poke at 2nd gen people is that 1st gens are all metal..not plastic haha

ours arent fully boxed, are they? I thought it was mostly boxed except for the ends

there's just a fuckton of every tacoma here

 

LT 2nd gens do see, to be getting more popular.

Luckily..frame rust isn't a huge issue where most of us are.

 

Thanks guys! Ive been in love with toyots trucks for as long as I can remember. It took me 12 years to get one and now all I want to do is drive the thing everywhere! Before I had this taco I had nothing but subarus, which are great but I must admit there is nothing like a taco!
