    Oh god damnit.
    Barrel break in is retarded
That statement was given by both Boots Obermeyer and John Krieger (both of which know metric fuck tons more about barrels than you and I will ever know)

Its a false idea that you are somehow cleaning and doing anything effective to aid in accuracy. More people have destroyed barrels doing it.

I followed all the steps in the break-in process but its up to you how you want to do it. I save myself some steps becaused I used an all in one solvent (shooters choice #7 bore cleaner) that takes care of all the lead, powder, carbon, copper and any other stuff.

I just ordered the otis tactical system so no more cleaning rods for me. I've never used a bore guide but the real accuracy nuts will say they are imperative. But I dont need to worry about that with the otis system. They are like $37 or something on Amazon.

You like the Otis system, small and compact, easy-to-use.

I know I will. I was just too cheap for to many years but considering the cost of rebarreling a rifle (especially because I was sloppy with a cleaning rod) it is really an very cheap investment.

I use a .270 with 130gr bullet. super easy to find and has plenty of power to reach out farther than your going to need.

I own a .270WSM and with a 130 grain round, it's a perfect fit to knocking down that Deer.

I've also taken down moose with it.......

Great all round caliber with the right power for any animal in North America.

i rock a tikka t3 .300 win mag with a nikkon monarch scope and love it. it's a cannon without question but it shoots flat and fast :)
that being said, i also shoot the lightest quality cartridge i can. a well placed shot trumps all the powder in the world so i wouldn't hesitate buying anything between .270 - .300 again

    .30-06

These and many others will work just fine. Probably the .308 or .30-06 is more versitle because they are effective to even larger game at longer distances. If money is tight you will be more successful in investing in a better quality scope and less on the rifle. The cheapest rifle will work if the target is properly hit. It takes a good scope to get that accurate shot placement consistantly. My 3 hunting rifles have scopes that cost as much if not more than the gun. If you upgrade the firearm someday you can remove the scope and put it on the new rifle. Have fun.
