No reason to pause, the fuel system is already pressurized even when the vehicle is off and left for long periods of time. The vehicle will do a self check few hours after truck is shut off. I know first hand when I installed my supercharger I go and change the injectors out and disconnect all fuel lines to the engine and when I did I got sprayed with fuel for days lol. Case in point absolutley no reason to pause all 3 of my tacomas did this occasionally not enough to worry about though

Sorry, if I am re stating this since I only read the first page, but I was told it is the TPS(throttle position sensor) that gets out of wack and the motor will die, the sensor will re adjust and you are good to go.

Same thing happens on the Fuel injected bikes that I race. Not sure exactly how the TPS sensor screws up though.

Hey Guys mine does this too, usually only when its cold out but it has done it before during other seasons too.

After this last time, I added HEET to my gas when I filled up and after a couple weeks it still hasnt done it. I feel like it fires up better and more reliably sounding. You might just try it. IDK.

    I have a 2009.

Yes, the system is supposed to hold pressure for a while. You are correct. But the fuel pump does not operate during the self check you mentioned. The self check is for the EVAP system.

    inferior 4.0

Isn't it a reliable engine though. Still its kinda old and doesn't put out much power at all, Toyota definitely needs to update the V6 and make a more powerful one. The Chrysler 3.6 puts out 285, toyota needs to make one that puts out at least 280.

Amen to that! For the gas milage I get, I atleast want respectable HP. The 4.0 is reliable though, which is always a double thumbs up.

I think it's easier for everyone to relate to the noise/visual cues as opposed to text of a 'hard start'.

There seems to be a couple other threads about this same thing a couple years ago with the V6 4.0's, but no solution seems to work. Also no video that I could find either.
    Example:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/9465-engine-sometimes-hard-start.html

Bill... this sure seems exactly like the problem back around 07 with the intermittant no-start condition tsb (tsb EG011-07). Mine was doing the same thing as mentioned... had that tsb done and it was completly fixed. Why can't they do a recalibration of the ecm to correct this issue now?

Why can't they do a recalibrate now? Because we don't know if it is a calibration error, or a part failure. Until you can verify WHAT is broke, there is no way to know what to do to fix it.

well it sounds like that ECM reflash fixes it... so again, why cant they just keep doing it for newer trucks?

    1. The reflash fixes a common problem, but first one needs to know that it is the EXACT same problem first.

    2. Why can't they keep doing it for newer trucks? Because the programming for each successive year truck is different. A software update for Windows XP won't do anything to help even the exact same problem with a boot failure on a computer running Windows 8. Different operating system.

It is the same thing on cars. They have a complete new operating system each year. Even though tons of parts are identical, software is something that is CONSTANTLY changing.
