This too. Or learn to like it. The magnaflow 18" isn't loud at all but has a growl to it.

Man Ive read this entire thread and Im STILL confused on what sound/style Id like better. Of course there is NO WAY I want it to sound like an tuner car, which I am assuming you all refer to a "ricey". I want it to sound like throaty truck, guess like a V6 pretending to be a V8. I do have a 3.4l 01 and I live in CA so I have TONS on emmision specs I have to stay in the perameters of.

Kinda diggin the MF but from the camera shots it sounds basically stock. The FM sounded a little more ballsy, but I dont want the DRONE at the 2-3k from standard driving.

I also kinda liked the AERO, but again Id have to hear it in person to get the full appreciation or depreciation ;)

So IDK just stuck and confused now lol

Well IMO I took my flow master off because of the tingy sound/ drone I got from it at higher cruising rpms. I then just left the muffler off and to my ears the drone I get from no muffler was much less bothersome but it is loudddd. I then did a little custom work with 3" pipe with no muffler and again it was just very loud and not to much back pressure. Then I got a 18" magnaflow. It did have a good growl to it but was too quiet for me. And at certain rpms it sounded like a buzzing bumble bee. Now I am back to no muffler and waiting to throw some cash together to order the 2525 aero turbine. Hopefully I will be happy with my exhaust this time lol. And this is all just my opinion. Hope it kinda helps.

No all totally helpful so I await to hear your opinon on the turbine because as i stated I too am interested in that. I do like hoe some of you stated to talk to the shops and see if theyll pop a few different options in to help you deciede before you buy. THATS HUGE!

Anybody have an idea how getting a new muffler (magnaflow) will affect smog? Retarded smog laws in CA...

Honestly for best performance the stock exhaust is the best ;) Although if you really just want a new exhaust I recommend the Magnaflow 14" or 18".

Oh ok I got ya. I allso hear taking the cat out gives you less performence is this true ? Or will throwing a magnaflow in be fine on its own..as I really dont want to loose HP on this truck I all ready went to non M/T tires due to loss of HP lol

Changing up just about anything on your exhaust will probably cause loss of horsepower, but it'll be unnoticeable.

You'll know when its failing by the "egg fart" smell coming out exhaust, thats the CAT burning up IIRC

As far as stock muffler goes I've had full sized Ford/Chevy/Dodge trucks in the past with smaller, less restrictive mufflers than the OEM 1st gen.

Ridiculeously restrictive to exhaust flow, a little back pressure is needed but not nearly the amount that they come with, its more about EPA emissions than anything else
