Here a shot of an old gas station we ran across yesterday. Any thoughts on which exposure is best? All comments / critiques are welcome.

I think it depends on the "feel" your going for. The first one is much more sinister..which i kinda like..Its a little dark..but i like the shadows its creates in the shingles.

X2. What he said. #2 has great perspective and monochrome helps it too.

Might have already asked this before, but before I head back for the semester, I'd like to get a tripod or monopod for my D3000. I am going to take it with me fishing and hunting a lot. I've only got 2 lenses, 18-55 and 55-200. What would you guys recommend that's a good price?

    Thanks!

    Got another question too...

For Christmas I got a 55-200mm Non VR lens for my D3000. For some reason my pictures are not very crisp, they seem to be very blurry 80% of the time. Is this user error or do I have to change the settings on my camera?

Depends. I don't know the lens, but I can tell you that using a zoomed in non IS (VR) lens with poor technique will cause blurring. Try upping your shutter speed. A good rule of thumb for "beginners" (not saying you are, just offering the advice) is to use at least as fast a shutter speed as MM you are zoomed. (i.e. when zoomed to 200 mm, you should shoot 1/200).

As your technique improves, you can bend this rule.

All that depends on whether technique is actually your problem. :)

No don't worry, I'm definitely a novice. Thanks for the advice! I'll try that.

You guys ever heard of Heatware? It's a place to track feedback from what I can tell. I'm about to pull the trigger and buy a couple things from a guy on another forum, and he has some feedback logged on Heatware. Is that a secure place, and is it legit? Most people have feedback within the forum (photography-on-the.net). But he had a link where his feedback was to this site:

More than likely this is camera technique and not the lens.

It'd be helpful if you posted some pictures with the EXIF data intact. If we can see that, I bet we can help you pretty quick. It would also be good if you could include samples at 55 through 200.

I like little things like that. Interesting stuff.

Never heard of Heatware. Guess I'd be more concerned about his POTN or other forum feedback first.
