We definitely have some talented photographers in this group. A couple of fine photographs guys.

 

Most of the winch mfgs use 4 ga for the short run between the solenoid and the winch. But yeah, if I was to run winch power all the way to the rear bumper, I think 2 ga is a minimum. 00 might be overkill.

 

Most winch kits seem to come with 4 gauge, so I assume I can get away with that for the front plug, but I would think I would want 1/0 or so for the rear due to the length.

But for the long run out back i would want it that big with out a doubt.

and controllable solenoids.

 

just get two 500 amp relays. One for the front and one for back. then just buy the wire.

Idk what kinda plugs you could use..but im sure there are some nice ones.

could be under 200 bucks easy. The relays would be 80ish. wire would be about 50 id think. and who knows about the plugs.

 

I also have 1/0 for my amps. haha. They are in the trunk of my car though, so it is probably 10-15ft of wire.

 

Its gonna be the light man. Its really yellow so check the white balance. Then id play with exposure maybe to try and get the darker grains..

white balance will help though a lot. Then play with how light is hitting the gun.

 

im glad i do now. Im using the power blocks to feed my CB and my lights and relays in the truck. Been very handy.

 

Yea thats gonna be tricky since it'll reflect a big spot of light right back to you. Probably need multiple indirect light sources..

 

Not much info in that link. If the wire gauge is listed, I missed it. I'm guessing its 4 ga tho. Same goes for the amp rating for the solenoid. I'm guessing 80 amp which is inadequate IMO.

Yea if you can get like at least 3 lights shining on it in a diffuse way it'll help.

 

80 amp is way under..most winches spike to 480ish amps..

building one will be better..plus..more custom

More light on the subject will allow you to close down the lens so you have a greater depth of field. In this pic, the DOF is so narrow part of the engraving os out of focus. Same goes for the long barrel shot.



I actually like this shot for what it is but you need to be at F8 or F9 minimum to get more area in focus. Are you on a tripod?

I'm afraid not buddy. You'll never get there doing that. Not on flash in any case. If you go to high on ISO you loose quality that way too.

Either broad daylight or tripod. Those are the choices.
