What kind of Christmas tree do you have?

Even though we always had real trees when I was growing up, I am now partial to the artificial ones. Owned one for the last 12 years. No mess and no worries about stepping on a needle or two. That don't tickle.

 

We have an 8-ft tall, 5-ft dia. fake tree. I prefer the real trees because it is real, but then on the other hand I have an issue with the waste - millions of trees are getting chopped down for christmas and then just thrown away - that just do not sit well with me, so I am putting up my old fake tree every year.

 

Just helped my parents chop down their tree. Years ago it was a family tradition to load up the whole family and drive out to a farm as chop down a tree. Now with everyone older and moved away its a smaller group that goes. It's now more about the "process" of scouting, arguing and the eventual compromise than the tree itself.

This year's winner was a Fraser Fur but usually it's a Balsam Fur.

 

Neighbors and good friends have a 1300 acre evergreen (nursery, transplant, christmas Tree) farm. Got one Saturday with the family.

Grand Fir is what we picked out. It smells like Citrus and fills the house with the amazing scent. I love it, it's huge too, 8ft tall and probably 5.5ft wide at the bottom. My 4 year old daughter couldn't wait to decorate it.

 

I need to make friends with the farm I was at today. If you looked carefully you could see a few deer stands strategically placed around the property.

 

We put up 2 trees.

This is the artificial one we bought during our last tour in Germany, 94-97. We've been putting it up each year and when we bult our retirement house we started putting this one in the dining room. The ornaments are mine (Classic Cars) and my wife's (Nostalgic Shops and Houses) from the Halmark Collection. The tree is filled and worn - think we'll buy a new one at the end of the season for next year.



This is the live cut tree in our Great Room. This is the tallest one we've had so far (been in the house 8 years). For reference, the doors behind the tree are 8 foot doors.

 

yah he would probably let me hunt that if I wanted to I bet. Their hired men hunt some of their acres but this place is farm that is miles away from where the main farm is and from everyone's homes so they don't hunt this 150acres

My in laws own like 300acres of woods and row cropped acres so I'm pretty set for hunting.

It's definitely well past Christmas, but I saw your tree in your build thread and it reminded me of the fun times in December. My daughter and I usually cut our tree each year. Being in the coastal range of California we are blessed having the ability to choose between at least three fir species, three pine, and cedar all within 30 minutes of home. There were some nice looking trees posted here real and fake. I love the car freshener.

 

My wife usually has the tree down by about the first. The tree we cut hasn't even begun to get crispy. We still have it up. Hahaha

 

That's funny, we usually put ours up after thanksgiving and take it down the second week of January.

 

i took my tree and christmas decorations down today....

 

one of my neighbors still had his lights up (was deployed for a couple weeks) and the friggin HOA left him a nasty note about it.
